This really getting old. (Vanity)

Posted on 02/09/2016 9:15:26 AM PST by andy1954

Most on here know by now I am supporting Marco Rubio for the Republican nominee.

In the process I am finding some rather remarkable talking points that are completely useless.

1. Voting for anyone other than Trump or Cruz will cause a permanent democratic majority. This is nonsense and anyone that has participated in this process knows it. 2. Some how Cruz can over come his 'likability' issue in the U.S. Senate and even in his home state (I am a Texan) 3. That Donald Trump really is a conservative. Nonsense. He is totally unpredictable. And really could implode in a General Election Has unfavorably ratings higher than Clinton. 4. Not voting is a valid position to take if Trump or Cruz are not the nominee. That somehow it will show them a lesson or will in the long run help the conservative movement. Hello President Obama. 5. That millions of evangelical Christians and far right conservatives will raise up to support Ted Cruz. I hope I a wrong about this, but it is nonsense in my opinion. Many evangelicals don't vote because of their world view, they just don't think it matters and the earth's days are number anyway. Far right conservatives that 'really' don't vote are not that many. I know there are plenty on this site, but that really is not that many. 6. The immigration issue will hurt us in the General Election. Only if we take such a hard line as Trump that we lose the entire Hispanic vote.

Hang in there and don’t be intimidated.
He’s not my guy, but the attitudes around here this election season are pretty hard edged.

When did FR start posting so many vanities especially those not marked as such?

So you are okay with the following:
Gang of Eight:
Sen. Michael Bennet, D-CO
Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-IL
Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC
Sen. John McCain, R-AZ
Sen. Bob Menendez, D-NJ
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-FL
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY

What they did:

And even last year Marco Ruboto was still pushing it:

I’m a Cruzer. Rubio is the only other candidate (truly prolife) I could vote for but that would be a significant and troubling compromise that I would have to pray hard about before making.

Rubio is very eloquent, but Christie was right about the memorized sound bites. Hillary will make him look youthful and inexperienced.

Want to know what Rubio will do as president? Just ask what would Paul Ryan would do?

Cruz Trump or lose.

Props to Rubio for standing firm on the “obama is not incompetent - he knows exactly what he is doing” theme. I think this is an important point and deserves repeating despite the “robot” accusations.

I watched the IRCA of '86 turn California into a permanently dark blue state.

And that initially affected 1.5 million illegals. Through chain migration it added millions of democrat voters to the state. Now even a moderate republican has a snowballs chance in hell here. Gun rights are being gobbled up, fraudulent voting is rampant.

We used to be a swing state. Now the conservative agenda is extinct.

Any suggestion that we should repeat this fiasco tenfold is an absolute deal breaker for me. I will NEVER support a candidate who supports it.

Anyone foolish enough to think Marco is trustworthy, when he has backstabbed his constituents after every previous election, really doesn’t have any standing to criticize others here (not even the Trump brigade).

I’ll take your bet on topic #1. And on topic #3 It has nothing to do with him being, or not being, a conservative. Quit trying to steer the narrative to a straw man.

1.. Welcome to FR..

2. In my opinion Rubio isn’t a good choice due to his take on illegal immigration..

A couple of things to checkout:

Marco Rubio: In immigration reform, legalization comes first - ‘It is not conditional’ - 2013

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/01/30/rubio-spokesman-admits-gang-of-eight-bill-did-not-secure-the-borders-first/

Rubio was the CO-Sponser of the monstrosity that is called the gang of 8 bill.

Cruz is my Number 1 at the moment.

Trump used to be my #2, but the more I learn about his past the more apprehensive I am about it.

Rubio is a distant #3.

People I vote for instead of hillary or sanders: Christie, Fiorina, Gillmore.

People I will never vote for: Jeb! and Kaisick

I am not intimidated, it is just useless talking to some people about this. I would gladly support any of the remaining candidates. But I have a strong opinion who could win. And no matter what anyone says, winning this election is important.

Marco has proved he can be bought and manipulated by the GOPe (see Gang of 8) against conservatism, the rule of law, and the interests of most Americans. Therefore, RINOs love him best.

If you want to be on that band-wagon, enjoy.

I’ll decline.

Personally, I think what’s getting VERY old is the constant personal attacks on people simply because of who they support.

We can support whomever we choose. Other people are free to disagree. But as for me, turning that disagreement into a personal attack is guaranteed to do only one thing: Strengthen my support of Trump, and make me dislike the attacker.

The same goes for supporters of other candidates. Attack the poster and you lose the argument and create an enemy at the same time.

It’s perfectly reasonable to disagree. You might even persuade someone if you respectfully articulate why. But you will never convince someone by attacking them.

I’ve never seen it this bad before, and not just on this site. It’s all over the Internet. I have to think it’s being fomented by paid operatives whose sole mission is to anger and divide people.

I wrote on Twitter to his team, forget it I’m not voting for him. No amnesty. No way.

I got a slew of twitter’s back from his team saying I was racist and too bad I cannot live with immigration.

Shows you exactly where that group is.

Andy, I was completely with you until the debate. But if Rubio not only supports having women register for the draft, but supports their "right" to be in combat MOS's, he not only lost my vote in the primary, but I wouldn't even vote for him (or Bush or Christie) in the general election.

That being said, I agree with your point that people should be able to discuss other candidates without the rudeness and invective that have become all too common here.
