Without warning, dozens of public works employees raided Tent City.
"They just coming in and taking all their personal stuff. People's life is in that box that they're throwing in that garbage can. Might mean nothing to nobody else, but it does to them," said Tim Walker.
Walker lived in Tent City for years but was recently able to get an apartment through Covenant House. Tuesday, about 30 homeless were camped out on a strip of land which legally belongs to Waste Management.
"Who knows what might be in there, your baby pictures, pictures of your family. Believe it or not, people do have stuff like this here, this is there home," Walker explained.
But Mayor Jones said single digit temperatures expected this week prompted him to take action to protect the homeless of Charleston.
"There's nobody in the city of Charleston that has to go without a bed or without a meal," Mayor Danny Jones said in a press conference.
But homeless will not be allowed back in Tent City when temperatures warm up.
"The individuals in Tent City have been informed that it is private property and that they are not allowed to return to the property because it's owned by Waste Management," said Amanda Marks- Cunningham a Public Affairs representatives from Waste Management West Virginia.

These people were given no warning and some were not even there when this happened. Their stuff was just thrown in the dumpster.
The city of Wooster,Ohio did the same thing to a tent city there.First they told the ten dwellers that they could remove their tents,then a group of thugs showed up and cut the tents to pieces with box cutters.Everything went into dumpsters.
At least they gave them notice. These people were not given any notice. I’m sure had these people been given notice they would have moved.
They upset me, but that is just wrong.
Syrian refugees are treated better.
You better believe that if this had been a tent city of muslim rapefugees Mayor Douchebag Danny Jones would have told us to “be more tolerant” of them as they raped and killed us!!!
Oh yes.
Then to top it all off, Mayor Douchebag Danny Jones would piss his pants when West Virginians would get out their “shooting irons” in order to defend ourselves from those muslum rapefugees.
I do hope after this Charleston has the good sense to get rid of him!
What makes you so sure of that?
Where I live, we have one of those tent cities. More than 10 years ago, the town tried to get rid of it, using similar tactics.
They were sued into oblivion by the ACLU and now pee down their leg at the suggestion of trying it again.
