singer Natalie Cole, the daughter of music great Nat King Cole who became a recording star in her own right with hits that spanned three decades, has died, her publicist, Maureen O'Connor, said.
She was 65 years old.
Cole is perhaps best known for her 1991 multiple Grammy-winning album "Unforgettable: With Love," which became the biggest hit of her career — selling more than 6 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Cole wowed audiences with a seamless duet with her late father's voice on the title tune, one of the elder Cole's signature numbers.
Other hits included "This Will Be," "Our Love" and a cover of "Pink Cadillac."
But for all of Cole's successes, her life was also marked by years of serious health problems.
Cole's move to singing was accidental. She was a pre-med student at the University of Massachusetts when a friend -- who was singing with a local group -- fell ill the night of a show and asked whether Cole would stand in for him. He had heard her sing informally at parties. She ended up taking his place in the group and setting aside a medical career.

I saw her perform in the late ‘80s or early ‘90s at an auditorium at USF. Much of the concert was her singing duets with her late father using video tapes of his performances. It was quite beautiful.

She had a beautiful voice.
Made her poppa proud, though.
Wow. I was never a fan of her music (I’m more into music like her dad’s), but this is shocking and sad news. I had no idea she had such health problems.
She resisted doing her dad’s songs for years, wanting to make her own identity, but that album, as the article said, turned out to be her best seller.
Her uncle (Nat’s brother), Freddie Cole, led the orchestra for that album, and he got as many of the original musicians from Nat’s recordings back together as he possibly could.
We saw her at Wolf Trap a few years ago, and you should have seen the look on her face when it was time to do “Unforgettable” and her dad came on the screen. Very touching.
Both of them are unforgettable, and I suspect that somewhere they’re doing a duet.
We’ll miss Natalie.

Just a nitpick here, but, LA Times, Natalie Cole was a star in her own right. Shouldn’t the headline be more a celebration of her, and not her ‘legendary’ father.

Not very old to die of congestive heart failure, is it?
She had a bunch of health issues from drug use in her early days. Hep C, kidney problems, etc.
Really seek and preserve those that can sing on their own god given gifts versus “auto tune wannabes” we see so much of today. Natalie and her Dads voices will be missed....... but saved forever.

I once did a search using the exact headline-——then I went to just keywords. Nothing showed but there HAD been a thread on the article.
In other words,searching often doesn’t work.
