Meadowlark Lemon, the "Clown Prince of Basketball" who entertained fans as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for 24 years, died Sunday, his wife confirmed to the New York Times. He was 83.
No cause of death has been given.
The Globetrotters announced his death on Twitter and said that they'd dedicate the team's 90th anniversary tour to Lemon and former teammate Marques Haynes, who died in May.

Imagine the life of travelling all over the world performing tricks before adoring fans while knowing each day your team was going to win.
They did a lot of good work for racial tolerance without doing protests or being victims.
Meadow Lemon III. Interesting man with an interesting life. Basketball Hall of Fame, too! No small part of American 20th Century cultural history.

Mary Cooper: Back home, there’s a girl works at the Wal-Mart. Tall, taaaaall girl. Woman could hunt geese with a rake. Thought she’d never find a man, but one day, wouldn’t you know, Harlem Globetrotters come to town. Long story short, today that woman travels the world with a semi-professional basketball player and two beautiful mixed race babies.

Meadowlark Lemon, one of the great entertainers for the ‘Boomer generation. I got to see him and Curly Neal play. I wonder if the Generals ever took a game from the Globetrotters-
