Former major-league outfielder Dave Henderson dead at 57

Dave Henderson, who spent parts of 14 seasons as a major-league outfielder and authored one of the most famous postseason home runs in history, has died at the age of 57. MLB announced his passing on Sunday.

I was there too and as an Angels fan it was heartbreaking, at least until 2002 when they finally won the World Series. Hendu was a great player in his own right, and as clutch a hitter as you could find. RIP Dave. Condolences to your family.

I didn't see a replay of the game 'til many years later.

It really wasn't a bad pitch by Donnie Moore. Angels had a lot of chances to put it away...IMO Doug Decinces/others were just as much "the goat" as Donnie Moore. Crazy atmosphere though, with the horses on the field, fans as loud as I'd ever heard at -A-....then...boom.

Amen. Loved watching Hendu when he was with my Oakland A’s as part of those great teams in the 80’s....RIP Hendu, 57 is waaaay too young to go....it’s the same age as my father when he died...

WHAT a fine ballplayer he was. He is with our good Lord now.

What I remember about Henderson is that he was winner. The teams he played for went to the playoffs except for his first team, the Seattle Mariners who were really bad in 80’s.

He was one of the most exciting players in MLB. He could hit for power and field well, of course, but I remember him best for stealing bases.

Yes, it is, WAY, WAY too young, especially for a healthy athlete.

My dad passed away at 57. But, he had had malaria during WWII. He didn't even have to serve as he was a foreigner, 31 years old, married and with a daughter (not me, my older sister).
But he loved his adopted country SO much that he voluteered. He ended up in North Africa and that is where he would have died were it not for the CONSTANTCY of those wonderful nurses who kept him alive.
My dad had also been an excellent athlete.
Malaria damages the heart if a person does live through it and daddy died of heart problems at 57. Not a day goes by where I don't MISS him so.

I am POSITIVE that Henderson's family and friends MISS HIM so much. They always will.

Now both Donnie Moore and Henderson are gone.I recall reading that Moore was haunted by that game for the rest of his life.Don't know if it's *true*,however.
