VA GOP May Strip McAuliffe Of His Protective Detail Over Concealed Carry
Bearing Arms ^ | 26 Dec, 2015 | Bob Owens

Virginia's radically anti-gun Governor and Attorney General were probably quite pleased with themselves when they spitefully severed concealed carry agreements with 25 states, including all but one of its neighbors.

They probably didn't anticipate the backlash they’ve received, which includes calls to recall or impeach Attorney General Mark Herring, and pushes for legislation that will both strip elected officials of the ability to make such unilateral decisions, and get a little payback.

“I have a budget amendment that I’m looking at to take away his executive protection unit. If he’s so afraid of guns, then I’m not going to surround him with armed state policemen.”

Sweet, so sweet,. Let’s see if you carry it out.

Clinton’s Bag Man should never have been Governor.

The VA GOP undermined Cuccinelli to throw the election to McAwful.

I would allow him to keep his protective detail—but the protective detail must be state police officers who volunteer for the assignment and those officers must be prohibited from carrying firearms while on duty. I would also prohibit any member of the executive branch from hiring an armed private protective detail and would void the concealed carry permits of all elected members of the executive branch while they are serving their terms.

My prediction are there will be no police officers willing to serve on such a detail and some of the elected officials will resign—or be caught carrying without a license and end up being removed from office and sent to prison.

I also recommend publication of his schedule at least 24 hours in advance, so the public can meet him.

How does a bill get passed without the governor’s signature?

Did the AG have actual authority spelled out in existing Virginia law to rescind reciprocity? Are there grounds for a legal challenge if not?

I dont see why the other 25 states should continue to recognize a VA drivers license.

Motorists kill more people than guns each year.

We are told drivng is a privilege, the RKBA is an enumerated guaranteed protected constitutuonal right.

If a state will not recognize other states’ legal issuing of one kind of license, those other states have the same ability to reject that states’ other kinds of licenses too.

If a state rejects other states’ licenses on the grounds of differing standards possibly not matching their own, that argument can be used against them by other states to reject their own licenses.

Sometimes objectionable riders can get attached to must pass legislation. Prime example is how we got guns legalized in national parks: The Obama would have vetoed it, but it was attached to credit card legislation he HAD to pass.

And I quit the VA GOP to never go back.

I share the sentiment, but have heard grass roots stories of how Dave Brat was selected as an in your face to VA GOPe types.

We need more of that as there are very good potential candidates that need to be shown how to overcome the establishment types.

At least Mr. Trump is showing some how it is done.

I would allow him to keep his protective detail.

Pull the protective detail. Assign him the option of a staff car driven by a state employee or he can move around on his own, like every one else.

What is good for the goose, is good for the gander.

Hope he doesn't have official plans to visit others states. Now conceal carry types from other states that drive through Virginia on I-95 in their north-south travels might have new issues.

The beauty would be that, with a properly written bill, the guv would have to admit, display and boast of his own hypocrisy.

I know I was going to the Galax area of the Blue Ridge to ride my Harley this spring.
Guess I’ll go back to North Carolina to spend my money.

I never left the VA GoP (RPV) but was never the VA GoPe.

The Dave Brat story is the greatest modern victory of the conservative movement and was entirely grassroots driven. It was truly the conservative grassroots versus the VA GoPe and changed control of the Commonwealth and affected what happened in Congress (i.e., Boehner, McCarthy, etc.)

In 2016, ground zero for the Commonwealth of Virginia and our great nation is the 7th Congressional District.
