KFC Is The Essential Element of Japanese Christmas

With less than a week until Christmas, people in Japan are stressing about how much they still have to do to prepare for the holiday. Unlike countries where the Christmas season is all about gift giving, and maybe some Christianity, less than 1% of Japanâs population pays any attention to the religious connotations of December 25. What they do focus on is the delicious food awaiting them. Here in England, weâre also geared up for the tasty treats that are prepared at this time of the year, such as Christmas pudding, the chocolate Yule Log, and Mince pies. Plus, thereâs the turkey and all the trimmings. But wait. What about countries like Japan where you canât get turkey? Simple, grab yourself some Kentucky.

I was born in Japan. I love and respect the Japanese culture. But that said, the Japanese are weird.

Y’know, if McDonalds used similar ad campaigns here at home, I think they’d be in better financial shape.

I find it amazing how many Hindu's and other non-Chritians celebrate Christmas, as if the joy is so overwhelming that not even the devil can dim it.
I have a neighbor who is muslim and she always decorates her house with lights, One year she put out one of those huge inflatable Santa's.
Sorta like they have been casually getting to know Jesus - on purpose.

I have also read that KFC is the chic place for wedding receptions in China. However, Coke starting in the early 1950s created our iconic image of Santa to push Coke sales at Christmas.

The iconic look of Santa was made by a political cartoonist named Thomas Nast in the 1800's. He is also the man who invented the elephant as a symbol for the GOP and donkey for the Democrats.
Coke started using Santa in the 20's.

I flew into Misawa AB about 20 years ago. I only had a few hours off, so I spent most of it sleeping in my closet sized hotel room. When I woke up, I had just a couple of hours to kill, so I watched Japanese TV. It was.......disturbing.
