Texas Hospital Seeks to End Life of Conscious Patient, Says Mother
Breitbart Texas ^ | 12/06/2015 | by Lana Shadwick

A Texas mother claims a hospital is seeking to end the life of a her son who is a fully conscious patient. The patient’s mother says that a hospital administrative death panel is “Playing God” in deciding whether her son has the “quality of life” to live.

Her son, Christopher David Dunn, 46, a fully-conscious former peace officer, is receiving life-sustaining care. Hospital officials in Houston are fighting to stop that care.

The man, his mother, and his lawyers, have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to save the man’s life. His attorney, Joe Nixon, told Breitbart Texas, “A criminal on death row in Texas has more rights than a patient in a Texas hospital.” He says a Texas statute denies a patient all due process rights and is unconstitutional.

A video (below) made by Ms. Kelly on December 2nd and produced with the help of a Houston-based pro-life organization, Texas Right to Life, shows that Dunn understands the questions asked of him, and he communicates that he wants to live.

Dunn is a former sheriff’s deputy and has worked as a Homeland Security officer but had no health insurance when he got sick. He has been in the hospital for eight weeks since a noncancerous mass was found where his small intestine connects to the pancreas. Ms. Kelly says the mass is squeezing off the small intestine and is affecting his liver and kidneys.

“When they found out that Chris did not have insurance, they said they were done,” Chris’ mother claimed.

She says the hospital wants to turn off the breathing machine and administer a dose of morphine and another drug she did not know the name of. She was told it would take only three to five minutes for Chris to die if the drugs were administered.

This is so sad. The video shows him nodding his head and putting his hands in prayer position when asked if he wants to live.

"George W. Bush was the Governor of Texas when the statute that gives the hospital this power was enacted. It is section 166.046 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.

“The statute makes the decision of the hospital committee final, not appealable, and there is no right to go into a court of law to have a judge review the hospital’s decisions,” Dunn’s lawyer, Joe Nixon, told Breitbart Texas. He said the decision is made behind closed doors in a hospital and a patient has no representative or due process rights."

You mean W Bush enacted Death Panels in Texas, before 0zero deemed them - nearly 10 years later - in 0CommieCare??

This story is heartbreaking. I hope it will go viral, now that Breitbart has picked it up.

Prayers up for this man, and his family :(

Be reasonable. The hospital has spent so much money caring for illegal aliens without insurance, they can not possibly afford to take care of a US citizen. /s

I wonder if George talked to Jebbie before he signed this statute...

This case should be screamed on the rooftops. Houston Methodist Hospital should be wanting to hide under a rock when it is all over.

this makes me want to see the hospitals financial books to see if there is a correlation between no insurance and them deciding to end a life. I bet you there is and I bet you that there is.

This insurance money problem never existed like this before Obamacare. I am expecting to read about armed guards throwing desperately ill patients out on the sidewalk for lack of insurance. I expected this to happen when that monstrosity was passed.

Lets hope Governor Abbott in his wheelchair has the gonads to deal with this situation unlike John Ellis Bush did in a situation in Florida ten years ago.

I would imagine he would die a more painful slower death. But I have never heard of putting to death a fully conscious and responsive patient.

I can’t prove a thing, but I’ve suspected that two elderly deaths locally within the past year were actually snuffed by the convalescent homes where they were staying, in both cases. I only suspect this because of the changes in the patients each time I visited. But in neither case did family members ever indicate any suspicions, so I kept mum.

When abortion first became legal, many people, clergy especially, predicted that it would lead to euthanasia. Well.......guess what!

I’m surprised that the family are even apprised of what is being done. Since the hospital has legal discretion, they just snuff the patient and go on about their business. This was in PA.

Why wasn’t this story posted with more prominence like “Front Page News” or even “Texas” under topics?

I am disabled from bumping this story up in prominence.

It should be boosted up if you or someone else can do it.

“When they found out that Chris did not have insurance, they said they were done,” Chris’ mother claimed.”

Obama did not mention this as a consequence of not having health insurance.
