ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. () Police in Florida busted a game of mahjong in Florida at a condominium clubhouse. The group accused of the crime: four women between the ages of 87 and 95.

King says word spread about their weekly gathering and that a "troublemaker" in the community called the police citing a law that prohibits playing the game for money. Police closed the clubhouse.

After a bit of investigating, officials came to the conclusion that there is no ordinance prohibiting mahjong gambling of that nature.

The cops are too scared to go after the Hispanic and black gangs, so they spend their time going after 95 year old women.

The “crime” is not gambling in casinos so that the state and their buddies who run the casinos can get their takes.

I’m glad the police are concentrating on such hardened criminals.

Someone call the vice squad. I hear there’s a floating gin rummy game making the rounds in St. Pete. Maybe the Turkish Air Force can just lay some napalm on them.

You don’t even have to read the article to see that someone called the police and complained so they responded. As they should have. So, if there is someone in your neighborhood breaking the law, no matter how trivial it may seem to others, if you report it to the police, you are OK with them telling you it isn’t worth their time?

I bet the citzens there are feeling so much safer now that that illegal gambling hall was shut down. Shows what total jerks the cops/city council are.

I think someone needs to bust the bingo games, too - my mom never declared her winnings before someone stole her bag of quarters.

Hilarious.

Now a good journalist would figure out who is the busybody who ratted them out, and exactly what connections does he/she have to the mayor or police commissioner.

Because I sincerely doubt that the average cop is going to waste his time harassing a foursome of little old ladies without heat being applied from the top.

If any of them had pet dogs, it’s a good thing they didn’t have them there.

You don’t even have to read the article...

Well, just supposing you did decide to read the article...

You'd find out that the gambling ordinance exempts penny-ante games with piddling stakes. In fact, it specifically cites mah-jong as a non-crime.

But, you'd only know that if you read the article.

Some years ago, in the Rampart district, a dangerous, gang-infested neighborhood in Los Angeles, cops busted a chess game being played in a doughnut shop by some elderly men. The cops apparently had no idea what chess was and thought it was some sort of gambling game.
