San Diego Chargers will file for relocation to Los Angeles in January

The San Diego Chargers will file for relocation to Los Angeles when the NFL opens the application window in January, Mark Fabiani told The Mighty 1090 AM radio show.

“At this point yes, because there's no sign that the other team or teams are not going to file,” said Fabiani, who serves as the Chargers’ special counsel. “Everyone assumes all three teams will file, and in that case we can't afford to lose our market in Los Angeles and Orange County.”

You are correct. They were the Los Angeles Chargers in their first, 1960.

I see billionaires lining up with their hands out. They want the state to provide them with brand new facilities so that the value of their teams will double overnight. If I were a public official, I would refuse to even consider providing a stadium to a team except perhaps in exchange for an equity interest in the team. Unfortunately, too many public officials can be bribed to provide a stadium for more or less nothing.

This is the real welfare state in all its glory.

The Chargers are going in together with the Raiders for a stadium in Carson.

So if all goes well there will be two teams to root for ... or against.

I'm still hoping that the Rams move to what used to be Hollywood Park.

Then there is the very slight chance we get all three.

The San Diego Chargers can trace their lineage to August 1959, when Barron Hilton met with representatives from five other cities to discuss a proposed football league which later became known as the American Football League (AFL). The AFL began in 1960 with eight teams, including Hilton’s Los Angeles Chargers, the Denver Broncos, Dallas Texans, Oakland Raiders, New York Titans, Houston Oilers, Buffalo Bills and the Boston Patriots... After moving to San Diego in 1961, the Chargers went on to play nine more years in the AFL.

Really? Novel idea to have two major teams sharing a stadium, but with some tweaking it could work.

Scheduling: one team has to be on the road when the other team's at home. Exception: when they play each other, which one is the home team? Do they alternate?

Of course all of the signage has to be changeable (or mention BOTH teams). Ditto souvenirs, drink cups, promo items.

Upside is the stadium gets used nesrly every weekend during the season. Downside: can the grass take the abuse?

Seventh high school player died yesterday. More teams in San Diego County are going 8 man due lack of interest and parents saying no. Just like the bullet train use the money to build reservoirs, water desalinization plants and security the border rather than waste money. Good bye Chargers from former season ticket holder.

Agree that it is hard to share but is doable.

USC, UCLA, and the LA Rams shared the Coliseum for almost 30 years (less than ideal for all three).

The Dodgers and Angels shared Dodger Stadium for four years.

The NY Giants and Jets share MetLife Stadium.

Actually, my local TV station does a lot with the high school athletic groups. They show lots of video .. and it’s always struck me that most of those High School football players do a better job than the Chargers do.

It used to really annoy me. They were making all these demands, yet they weren’t play that good a game.

I like Rivers, and I think he really tries hard to keep the team functioning .. but they just aren’t winning .. and Rivers cannot be blamed for it all. And, another thing about Rivers I have noticed lately .. he’s been throwing the ball higher and farther than usual. I wonder if he’s been watching the high school teams too (because that’s exactly what they do).

The other thing that frustrates me is that other members of the team are not protecting the guy with the ball.
