I don't think the 1st amendment applies at all here - freedom of speech or freedom of assembly. The government is not involved, and the prohibitions against infringement on those two rights applies to government - not employers. So what is the government's involvement here? It is the arbiter in civil cases...and in this instance, the employee may have a case that his employment contract was broken. I would not be surprised to see a suit. I wasn't being glib about the slippery slope. In all seriousness, what if a co-worker had this on their bumper: Its a common symbol, which has been on car bumpers for decades. But its a Christian symbol...and Christian groups oppose gay marriage...which is classified as 'hate' in the media, by the SPLC, etc....just as 'hateful' as that confederate flag. So one day, your boss tells your co-worker to take it off of the car. How do you feel about that?

Yes, that is the slippery slope we go down. Take note at how conservative positions are characterized as ‘hateful’...especially towards Obama.

Remember how Limbaugh was skewered for saying “I hope he fails”. Was that really that ‘hateful’...not really, but it was characterized that way, to make others cower and be afraid to criticize Barry.

BTW, as an aside - I remember Bush’s motorcade to the inauguration being pelted with trash, with people screaming genuinely hateful things at him. The slimy media didn’t characterize that as hateful at all, for some reason.

The tolerant have become the intolerant and the inclusive have become divisive. What is wrong with this country where one person, or even a few, can dictate what everybody else does or gets to do?

More and more, the weakness trait of our president has trickled down to the leadership style of the business world, the colleges and universities, the military, etc. where one peep from some negative, disgruntled person can bring the officials crumbling to their knees and begging forgiveness for their sin of not giving into the dissenter sooner. It seems like everybody has the word "Sorry" at the tip of their tongues, ready to apologize for anything and everything that the PC Left doesn't like. The majority is punished for the minority's bigotry, narrow-mindness and disgruntlement.

What happen to freedom of speech? What happen to having the right to your own opinion? What happen to the freedom to be different? What has happen to our country?

Then I think of Obama and his efforts to drive a wedge between every varying group in this country and I realize I have answered my own question. The problems of the country reflect the man at the top. We have elected a divider, not a uniter. We have allowed this man to ruin our once great country right before our eyes without so much of a peep from our other leaders. He has made everyone afraid to speak up for fear of lawsuits, IRS retaliation, regulatory goon squads, and the branding of you as a racist for daring to oppose him.

Please add my voice to those who are turning away from you in response to your egregious behavior toward your own employee. Intolerance masked as "intolerance of intolerance" is still intolerance. Your punishment is of extraordinarily greater offense than your employees so-called infraction.

The Confederate Battle Flag is NOT a racist symbol! That is a phony meme designed to marginalize political opponents. When you punish people based on one arbitrary measure or standard you invite the very abuse you wish to deter.

And you lose the support of your customers in the process.
