Yeah, mustn’t criticize the NY mets.
I saw that angle too but it clearly isn’t conclusive enough to overturn the call at least based on the criteria I have seen in place in the regular season.
The angle I saw in high def you could see the bag change shape for a split second and the light reflected off the bag was definitely altered for a split second.
Lots of MLB players and staff still don’t know what the MLB front office was up to when they took it out of the umpires hands and basically set the Dodgers up for a win.
-David Wright:” I have a lot of questions. I’m not sure if they’ve been answered or not. I’m not trying to call out the officials or the officiating. I’m just confused as to that play on a number of different levels.
I have a lot of questions. It’s not sour grapes. It’s not trying to call out the umpires. I’m just confused as to a number of different reasons why he was called safe right there”
If MLB is going to exercise that kind of power there has to be transparency and accountability, Torre was in the stands, so jut WHO decided to put Utley back on second ?
For all I can tell they just wanted the series to last another game for the ad revenue.
And Mets! You know MLB is hoping for that matchup.
Oh, 100%!
That would be the first time you & me are sports “enemies”.
I’ll say this: If CHC beat the METSIES, I hope they win the WS.
I don’t have an overall favorable opinion of MLB Leadership. That being said, I don’t believe they made this call based on needing more games in the playoff.
Calling one runner safe when at least one angle makes that look obvious, is not “basically setting the Dodgers up for a win.” They had players at second base earlier in the game and didn’t score. If my memory serves correctly, they had a situation with runners on first and third with one out, and didn’t score.
As for the overhead shot you’re referencing, I haven’t seen it. If I had perhaps I’d agree with your take.
What I did see was a video from the side that showed the full sweep of his foot not coming within an inch and a half of the bag.
I don’t believe the Mets protested that call stridently. They must have concluded that there was a sound basis for it. I did not see that part of the game, so if this is not an accurate impression, then you should mention it.
