As the State has pointed out, a bare minimum of 5,664 panelists would be required to conduct voir dire for the one hundred seventy-seven potential trials in this case. Meeting this challenge, while maintaining McLennan County as a venue option, will be a daunting and costly task not only for the court system but for the entire Waco area community.

So, nine Texas DAs think the gag order should remain in place.
Four or Five DA’s of which are in the 10th COA region (if you count Reyna, which is what appears to be the case)?
FYI
IBTG
Forgot DA Rene Pena -
So it appears he has 9 DA’s which cover a total of 18 of the 254 counties in Texas.
La Salle County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,886
Karnes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,824
Atascosa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 44,911
Frio County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 17,217.
Wilson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 42,918.
So the DAs represent approximately 2% of the population in a few of the smallest, most rural counties in the state?
What they don’t really address in their argument is that Swanton and Reyna were in the media 24/7 for the first weeks, with no one to rebut them on their version of events.
Can’t put that horse back in the barn. They caused the problem of publicity, so let them suffer the consequences.
I guess these smaller county DAs could have legitimate concerns, being they represent very small populations, but again, had Reyna and Swanton not grandstanded and put on show after show, it wouldn’t be an issue.
Not really. Most every accused claims innocence, many of them even lie, even under oath. So, how do the DA's beat that? With evidence. Not with gag orders. The state has evidence galore in this case, videos even. It doesn't get any better than that.
Well, I am trying to find some excuse/justification other than that several are part of the Baylor Law grad posse, or, were in Reyna’s father’s appellate jurisdiction, or, maybe are hunting or fishing buddies.
I’m sure TG will be along here shortly to explain it all to us.
Are you saying rural counties in Texas won’t give the bikers a fair trial? I would think they would have their best shot at a fair trial in that kind of venue.
No. I’m still trying to figure out why these 9 DAs decided to hop on Reyna’s sinking ship. Just thinking out loud.
ah ha, IBTG.
Well, at least someone is crunching the numbers. And I am sure that someone is putting dollar signs on those numbers.
Assuming Reyna can get 177 indictments, what are the odds of getting 177 convictions? But assuming he gets his indictments, what do you think of defense going for jury nullification?
Most of the counties are fairly close to Waco, except for Pecos and Crockett which are pretty west. It does make you wonder.
I don’t see Reyna going for 177 indictments. Ten, maybe. He’s admitted having no evidence of conspiracy, and it’s crazy to indict somebody without evidence. Juries do a pretty good job of matching evidence to the crime. The video evidence is going to be powerful for those who acted violently. I’d guess half a dozen convictions out of ten charges, 60-80% conviction rate.
I think this is just “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours,” part of the good ol’ boys club.
ok I’m a noob. what does IBGT stand for?
maybe I meant IBTG... whatever its early/late
