Great post and discussion. Thanks to all.

Since 1913…

9. The management of a great funded debt and a extensive system of taxes will afford a plea, not to be neglected, for establishment of a great incorporated bank. the use of such a machine is well understood. If the Constitution, according to its fair meaning, should not authorize it, so much the better. Push it through by a forced meaning and you will get in the bargain an admirable precedent for future misconstructions.

11. As soon as sufficient progress in the intended change shall have been made, and the public mind duly prepared according to the rules already laid down, it will be proper to venture on another and a bolder step toward a removal of the constitutional landmarks.

You are correct on all counts, but, remember, we know how the story ends. God wins.

Seems that everybody just wants a friendly dictator.

1 Samuel 8:10-18 So Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking for a king from him. He said,

“These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen and to run before his chariots.

And he will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest, and to make his implements of war and the equipment of his chariots.

He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.

He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his servants.

He will take the tenth of your grain and of your vineyards and give it to his officers and to his servants.

He will take your male servants and female servants and the best of your young men[a] and your donkeys, and put them to his work.

He will take the tenth of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves.

And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

Human nature has not changed in three thousand years. We still make foolish demands for a king, and God still permits our foolishness.

The assault by ComDem’s and the GOPe is being directed by foreign interest.

They have both sold the nation out to our enemies in the mad rush to take the blind leap of faith into Global Government.

We witness the convergence of the Godless Left, Global Fascists & Islamists against Christians, Jews and Freedom Lovers. Each of the first 3 believe they will overcome the other 2 and rule the world. None of them will, in the End, God will prevail.

God help US.

I've forgotten how many times Article V opponents have resorted to empty bumper-sticker rhetoric.

I don't think it's empty rhetoric at all. I have deep misgivings of the entire idea of an Article V convention in this day and age. I simply do not think we have enough statesmen of the quality it takes to do what needs to be done without including many extremely dangerous concepts into the very fabric of the Constitution.

I could be wrong about that, but how many politicians of any stripe can describe for you a coherent philosophy springing from first principles and extended logically forward in the manner shown by John Locke in his Treatise of Government. Almost no one even knows who the heck Locke is these days, and even less know how important his writings were to the folks who founded our nation.

Most Article V opponents assume that ambassadors from the states to an amendments convention will perform their duties in the same reprehensible manner we know so well from the Uniparty denizens in Washington, DC. Since most congressmen and senators would sell their souls today for reelection tomorrow, opponents expect states to send hacks with no interest beyond their own to an Article V convention.

An erroneous equivalence is made between the familiar, and that which we have never seen.

Unlike the wild lawlessness of the Uniparty on display in DC, the Article V state convention process itself is a tremendous safeguard for liberty, for unlike our thoroughly debased and self-serving Congress, those attending a convention will join a fresh and uncorrupted institution. The difference in behavior and demeanor we can expect between congressmen and convention attendees is identical to that between men’s conduct in strip clubs and church.

States will send serious men and women of character and judgment armed with detailed, focused and strict commissions to promote their state supported amendments. State ambassadors to an amendments convention will be unconcerned with that which drives the DC Uniparty; money, personal power, and reelection will not be their focus or interest. Here for instance, is the Indiana statute that will govern the conduct of its delegation. Criminal sanctions and other penalties are provided in the improbable event of going outside of one’s commission.

We can have every expectation the states and their ambassadors will rise to the occasion. They will understand the gravity of their assignment and conduct themselves in a manner precisely opposite that of the Uniparty. Would states with majorities of their people fed up with joblessness, Obamacare, Mexican and muslim invasions, Scotus, EPA regulations and other administrative diktats too numerous to count actually recommend dangerous and liberty crushing amendments?

Every proposed amendment passed by majority vote in the state amendments convention must be ratified by three fourths of the states to become part of the constitution. Pause and ask yourself if proposals from the state legislatures that meet this high bar should not be in our governing document.

The trail of history is littered with fallen republics, of peoples insufficiently covetous of their liberty. We are admittedly far down that tragic path, yet we have not been sentenced to misery and destitution.

Take comfort in, and smile at the reality that no nation ever sold itself into slavery. Meet in convention and let good and serious men and women, isolated from the corrupt Uniparty, discuss the changes to our republic so necessary to reclaim freedom.

I’m not a student of Scripture, yet have always recognized Christianity as the foundation of American civilization.

It’s only because I’m studying the enlightenment writer and republican martyr, Algernon Sidney, that I know what you mean by quoting Samuel.

Good post. There is little time. I hope God will still answer us.

I’m not a student of Scripture

You aren't supposed to need special instruction to understand what the Bible means, just thoughtful consideration. The Bible is simply saying that it is human nature to want a secular dictator, a king, a tyrant, someone to be Mommy or Daddy who will order us around so we don't have to make decisions for ourselves. The Bible is also saying that we have the ability to make that choice, and that even though it is a mistake, God will allow us to make that mistake.

If you read the Bible merely as a commentary on human nature, it's remarkable how true everything rings. [There are other, often more important, meanings in the Bible, but I find the human side particularly charming.] King David, who looked out at a beautiful woman, wanted her even though she was married, and then tried to hide what happened when he found out that she was pregnant, sounds a whole lot like people we know today. John spent three years with Jesus and still missed the lesson on humility, as we see in his description of himself as "the disciple Jesus loved most". We all know people like John too.

most congressmen and senators would sell their souls today for reelection tomorrow

This is one reason to support term limits. But then again the people should determine term limits through the voting process. A double edged sword indeed.

Hi Dave,

I believe we are talking Article V here, a Convention of the States and not a Constitutional Convention. Quite different from each other.

FRiendly Regards,
