I was thinking that he is probably a “Gentle Giant” who has just turned his life around, is now in the church choir and was to begin college next month.
It’s a felony for anyone (but a police officer) to kill a police dog (police officers whose dogs die while in their care are typically given a paid vacation a.k.a. “paid administrative leave”).
This is because police dogs are officers when killed by nonpolice but dogs when killed by police.
