Here’s How You’ll Die When the SHTF (and How to Prevent Your Untimely Demise)

1. You die of thirst or waterborne illness.
2. You die from fantasy-world planning.
3. You freeze to death.
4. You starve to death.
5. You have an accident involving major trauma.
6. You get murdered when raiders or looters come to steal your stuff.
7. You get sick.
8. You get an infection.
9. You die because you are fat and/or out of shape.
10. You die when you daily medication runs out.

IMHO #1 and #2 can not be over stated. Until modern plumping and water purification one of the largest killers in the world was water borne illness and still is in the 3rd world. #6 Looters, thieves and killers don't always look like zombies or yutes. Some can and will be neighbors and acquaintances. Also watch for those who are ardent anti-preppers not only will they want your stuff they will want revenge because you was right and they will blame you for it. And they won't all be flaming liberals.

Biosand filter. You can build one, I did, it’s sitting in my garden shed.

Most people can live 2-3 weeks without food but only 2-3 days without water

If you have nothing but water you can outlive a lot of zombies

A Sawyer water filter or a Lifestraw is good insurance and can easily be carried to bug out

We take it so fro granted but can’t get by for long without it, especially in hot climates.

Doesn’t take six months. I was in the hospital and didn’t eat for 8 days. Lost 40 lbs.

I agree. We have taken care of the water problem and food and security as much as anyone can. After that we have the adequate heat problem taken care of. We are still working on the alternative electrical system which if you don’t have one is going to make your life short and miserable.

If the grid goes down for 6-12 months you better have all of the above.

If you are on live sustaining meds its not going to end well. Unless you can somehow stockpile.
