Soggy revenge? Water damage discovered after tenant evicted

Donald Rennie, who co-owns the business next door, said he returned to work from a Bahamas vacation Monday to find the ocean had practically followed him home. About 2 inches of water had seeped into the carpet and onto the furniture from the neighboring storefront, Rennie said.

"I opened the door and smelled a horrible smell. My feet were actually squishing in the carpet from the amount of water that was in here," Rennie said. "All of that water seeped in over here and it was just a mess."

Police are still trying to track down the woman who owned the massage parlor, Stocker said. She could face felony charges if she is found to be at fault.

Being a landlord is like herding sharks.

I’ve heard that from people. Seems like a tremendous headache.

Maybe Bubba Clinton?

When I was a much younger man....in my 20's....Myself and a business partner acquired eight properties which we decided would be excellent rental properties.

To this day I consider that one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.
For one thing, I found out that I'm not cut out to be a land lord.
After less than five years both of us called it quits and sold out at a loss.....
BUT...
It was worth it to get rid of all the headaches.

I will never be a land lord again

Not even with Section 8 paying the rent?

I don't know anything about any "Section 8" and I'm sure I'm way too old to care.
I don't care who pays the rent as long as I'm not the land lord.
My short stint as a land lord was some 50 years ago and I doubt things have changed much.
'Nuff said

Section 8 is a “marvelous” program where your tax dollars pay all but a pittance of the rent for people who are too lazy to work, do dishes, or take out the trash...

Why would I want to collect monies that came out of my own pocket as tax dollars?

Why would you want someone else to collect them?

Okay. You have a point there.
But, I'm in my 70's and I have no interest in acquiring rental properties again as I said

Your return on investment is so narrow with rental property and depends on having civilized tenants to make a profit.

Section 8 would be a nightmare as a landlord. There is so much third party risk. Bad renters, and corrupt property management companies .

I had heard stories of third world immigrants having open fires in the house to cook, people working on motorcycles in the living rooms with oil stains on the carpet and floors , and renters punching holes in the wall and trashing the place before eviction. No way would I consider being a landlord.

But these would be GREAT tenants! The very best the government can subsidize, the ones who no one who does a background check would want anywhere in their county! The one who if that had any initiative what-so-ever could be on Jerry Springer!

Yup, not what youwant to do. If you have to you buy low, rehab a little, and flip it. Get out asap with a little profit but no longterm headaches.
