WUTV Takes Over The Weather Channel Beginning 6 pm EDT Today (not sure, just posting what it says)

The Weather Underground hits live TV today, when the inaugural episode of the Weather Underground live cable TV show airs from 6-8 p.m. EDT Monday, August 24 on The Weather Channel (TWC). I’m in Atlanta today to help launch this unique effort, which aims appeal to everyone’s inner weather geek by focusing on the science behind weather and forecasting. TWC is really making an impressive effort on this, complete with a custom set built to look like an underground bar, an original theme song of Seattle-grunge type music, and state-of-the art 3D visual presentations. Hosted by Emmy-award winning TWC meteorologist Mike Bettes, the show will air weekdays from 6 - 8 pm Eastern time. Both Bob Henson and I will be featured twice this week. Bob is scheduled to go Tuesday and Thursday from our San Francisco office; I will appear today (in the Atlanta studio) and Friday (via Skype from my Michigan office.) San Francisco-based Weather Underground meteorologists Jim Menard, Shaun Tanner, and John Celenza are also scheduled to appear during the first two weeks of the show. There will periodically be guest appearances from other severe weather experts and WU community members (personal weather station owners and bloggers.) Each show will aim to promote a unique feature of the Weather Underground web site, like the latest blog post by Bob or myself, WunderPhotos, or personal weather stations. Breaking weather events will be the main focus, but climate change stories will also occasionally be featured.

Now where I am I going to get those two hours of idiotic weather channel evening programing that I won’t miss between 6 and 8 pm? I have no interest in watching the shows they currently have. I might take a peek at this during the commericals on Bret Baer and Lou Dobbs.

TWC has been off my radar since they stopped forcasting the weather.

To me, TWC is going the way of MTV.

MTV became popular by playing music videos 24/7. Then they got away from that and started putting on shows, most, if not all weren't that good.

TWC made their bones by doing weather forecasts but they seem to be getting away from their original mission by putting on shows about disasters and such. And I'm finding that more and more TWC forecasts suck.

I'll give WUTV a look but I'm not optimistic that it will be good.

The studio is set up as a faux ‘man cave’ in a basement, complete with the electrical conduits on the walls.

I have the impression that this new “show” is aimed more at the couch potato millenials, by announcing that it will be a little geeky.

The new on air sets of TWC, with all the shuck and jive of computer generated graphics in a faux 3d effect, is an attempt to make the usual Obama voter seem as though they might understand what they never studied in school.

Weather Channel was purchased by regime affiliate Comcast (NBCU) as a method of further preaching the doctrine of climate change. It’s a brilliant strategy in my view, although their ratings have plummeted.

But the main biz (cable) makes so much dough, they can do stuff like this and MSNBC without any financial problems.
