On Monday, famed physicist Stephen Hawking and Russian tycoon Yuri Milner held a news conference in London to announce their new project: injecting $100 million and a whole lot of brain power into the search for intelligent extraterrestrial life, an endeavor they're calling Breakthrough Listen.
"We believe that life arose spontaneously on Earth," Hawking said at Monday's news conference, "So in an infinite universe, there must be other occurrences of life."
Geoffrey Marcy, a University of California, Berkeley, astronomer who found most of our first exoplanets, also spoke at the event as part of the group's brain trust....

I don’t know much about physics, and I have no interest in learning about Mr. Hawking either.
There’s about 20 million of them currently in the u.s. Not too bright there mr. hawking. They must be smart enough to take advantage of every benefit available.
They are going to spend all that money to find more illegal aliens? As if we don’t have enough.
alien life? Try L.A. There’s an alien language the native species do not understand and they use resources by taking it and demanding more, sometimes killing the native species with hit and runs.

As part of our Muslim outreach, perhaps $50M will be spent hiring a muezzin to broadcast the call to prayer from a mosque five times a day through some fancy radio transmitter pointed at Aldebaran.
Given the fact that there are hundreds of billions of galaxies (our Milky Way being only one) no doubt that there is life out there. Given the laws of physics there is no way a biological or mechanical entity from these distant places will ever visit us. However earth has been transmitting analog data for over one hundred years and huge amounts of digital data for over thirty years. Some day a distant civilization,itself linked to other even more distant civilizations just might “contact” us and show us wondrous things. Movies from Mingo anyone?

There’s a gun on the web that has had a camera pointed at it for a decade or more. It never spontaneous shot anyone. It is a mathematical certainty that in 6 billion years, it will never shoot anyone.
I never understood how such otherwise intelligent men can make a leap of faith greater than that in belief of God and call it science.
ValJar and James Carville are definitive proof of the existence of extraterrestrial life forms.
