Conn. Father: Son's flying gun drone video broke no laws
nbclosangeles.com ^ | July 17, 2015 | Dan Corcoran and Bob Connors

The father of an 18-year-old boy who built a drone with a gun attached and posted video of it on YouTube with the title "flying gun" says they broke no laws. The footage appears to show a gun affixed to a drone hovering several feet off of the ground in a wooded area. The gun appears to discharge several times while the drone is in flight. In the posting, Austin Haughwout, 18, describes the device as a "homemade multi-rotor with a semi-automatic handgun mounted on it."

'Haughwout said his son made ad revenue from the previous YouTube and used it to purchase parts for the 'flying gun.' He said he believes Austin could make approximately $1,500 in advertising revenue associated with the "flying gun" video, depending on how many views the video receives. He said Austin will use that money to fund his next project, though it is unclear what he will build.'

'Though it does not appear any state statute was violated, local police said the idea of a "flying gun" can be discharged remotely is disquieting.'

I saw a flying gun drone video at least two years ago, maybe three.

What about local ordinances?

Maybe POTUS should be kept in a Pope-mobile container or a bulletproof hamsterball at all times?

Okay, so it may be legal, it is a nice project, but thereafter, why? Just because you, doesn’t mean you should. And what kind of project is this for a parent to sanction and support? Maybe the money might be better spent in a college fund.

Thank you for referencing that article GoneSalt. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the referenced video and not at you.

"The father of an 18-year-old boy who built a drone with a gun attached and posted video of it on YouTube with the title "flying gun" says they broke no laws."

A possible problem with making a 1st Amendment-protected Internet video of this armed drone is the following. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ultimately encourages pro-gun control federal lawmakers to try to win votes by at least introducing constitutionally indefensible federal legislation to prohibit such things. And corrupt senators who are supposed to protect their states will probably join the bandwagon.

Two stupid, short-sighted men, infatuated with some fame and some money, playing into nanny-statist hands.

Dumb and dumber.

Then they need to just pound sand.

The father of an 18-year-old boy

Boy? Old enough to do anything except maybe down a Coors Light legally. Imagine if they described an 18 year old girl getting an abortion or getting tattoos or something, how the feminazis would jump on itg.

So, because of the ever-encroaching nanny state upon our inalienable Rights they should have....??

We have already seen the nanny state in our once Freedom of travel (license, anti hitch-hiking), innovation (3D printing [guns] are next in my estimation) and the like. Hell, the guy that gyro-copters to the halls of Congress...how much time/$$-fine did he get for his non-lethal protest??

Yep, the rightful indignation of armchair quarterbacks in the battle of Liberty and Freedom rise again!

It appears to have been filmed in a rural area.

Rural areas:
1. Generally don’t care to restrict the second amendment. And
2. Can’t afford to defend an ordinance attempting to restrict the second ammendment when challenged in court.

They struggle to fund keeping the roads paved.

I hate to break the news to dad, but yes, his son broke the law. Which ones I do not know, but I know that there are so many that everyone breaks one or more of them each day one lives. As I sit here typing this, no telling how many laws I violated. And that is the purpose of said laws. To make criminals out of the masses. That way, they can be controlled by the masters.
