If people think Lynyrd Skynyrd were terrible racists, they should take a listen to their song, The Ballad of Curtis Loew. The song is basically a testament and honor to a fictitious dobro guitar playing black man whom most people ignored. The lyrics tell the story of a boy who gave money to Curtis Loew so he could listen to him play his guitar all day.
From Wikipedia: “The band’s website says that the song is based on a composite of people who actually lived in the Van Zants’ original neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida.”
Another misunderstood Skynyrd song is That Smell, which some people assume makes a positive statement about drug use, but actually is a warning of the deadly dangers of it.

What was really pathetic about that crash is the moron pilot ran out of gas. That’s what caused the crash. What kind of moron takes a chance on low fuel like that? Oh you are only in the air with a 10 ton hunk of metal.

Ronnie was actually friends with Neil Young the lyrics in Sweet Home Alabama was a friendly jab. Skynyrd wasn't about race but rather the music & Southern Rock. The crash did change the personal lives of the survivors in the band. Billy Powell the keyboard player was also a Christian music artist afterward. Looking at Rossington he is wearing a cross. Ronnie's brother who took over as lead singer the same.
Southern Rock isn't the only music where a band used a Confederate flag or variant. The most successful country music band ever "ALABAMA" also used the flag on several album covers and a video. I've also looked in Marshall Tucker Band video's and saw the flags in the audience. It was Southern Rock.
And then we have Hank Jr. "If heaven ain't a lot like Dixie, All in Alabama, Dixie on my mind", are a few Dixie related songs he sings.
My childhood was the 1960's and my teens in the 1970's. I've lived among and worked with blacks, Filipinos, even went to a Voc/Tech with an Iranian who was stuck in the U.S. when the Iranian Crisis hit and couldn't go home. In my life I have not seen the level of Racism being generated by any groups more than I have that which a group of current Race Baiting politicians and so called preachers have generated beginning in 2009 and increasing to the level seen today. I'm not seeing white persons going around in sheets. But one was a honored U.S. Senator who's name is on many taxpayer funded venues. I'm not seeing blacks denied jobs any more than whites. I am however seeing a deliberate Marxism Tactic being used by our elected & appointed government as well as some Poverty Pimps of all races who are making a fortune playing race cards acting like saviors to the gullible brainwashed.
I'll judge people by how they act and apply Christ Golden Rule in how I treat them. Race to me is no excuse for bad or destructive behavior white or black. At the same time I refuse to carry any guilt which Cultural Marxist feel that I or others should carry.
I also refuse to bow to the Gay Mafia extortion. Ones race is given to one from GOD. All races have history to be proud of and all have some dark history. Homosexuality however is a learned and often recruited by predators behavior. Acting on it is a behavior it's a choice. Extorting Money or Services because of it is Tyranny and I will not bow to such a master nor remain silent. If you don't want my opinion you homosexuality don't force me too that point.
Some it seems want a divided nation most likely as a situation to form a Communist or Marxist Dictatorship State. Race fights and homosexual Mafia is their recruiting tool. Such as they are my enemy and an enemy of this nation no matter ones color.

Wow that is damn true, absolutely. I grew up in New york city in the 60s and 70s and I could write a book on the way that 1965 act destroyed entire industries in New York city. Probably #1 is the taxi industry. Before Kennedys treason act, most of the taxi drivers were Jewish guys from Brooklyn. Today it’s probably 80% Muslim with most of the taxi companies financing terror groups. And just think: They had the gall to bury Ted Kennedy in Arlington cemetery insulting every last American hero who gave their life in defense of the very thing Ted Kennedy has us strangling on now. If it was up to me, we would dig up that pukes grave and dump it in a sewer.

The band member Steve Gaines replaced made that same point in the movie. Rossington and Collins were in bad car accidents in 1976 and the song That Smell came from it as anti-drug. Also pre-crash VanZant was cleaning up his act.

If you went to college in the late 70’s early 80’s every other dorm room had a Confederate flag on the wall, in the Northeast that is. All it meant was that someone was going to hear a lot of Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet out of that room.
