According to my husband, St. John Chrysostom supposedly said that the floors of hell are paved with the skulls of archbishops. I looked this up a second ago and read where it is now attributed to St. Athanasius. So I don’t know which of them said it, but I think of it often.

I also reflect on how much was made of “false prophets” in the “end times” being able to make the rivers flow backwards, etc. The nuns and priests warned us not to be fooled.....

Raised Catholic, but never a strong practicing one (I didn’t even want to be confirmed because I wanted to receive my Peggy Petite doll for my 9th birthday rather than die for my faith (-: ) I guess it is time to stop attending Mass again. I can’t throw my support behind Francis.

I just can’t accept a Marxist as the head of the Catholic Church.

When I was in grade school (during the Cold War) the nuns and priests used to say that you couldn’t be a Communist and a Catholic, too. It was impossible to be both.

Only thing I’m sure of is that I am a freedom-loving American. Proud of my father’s service in WWII and my husband’s four years as a US Marine.

I guess I choose being American over being Catholic.
