Breathtaking ruins of the Soviet space shuttle program
CNN ^ | July 3, 2015 | Sheena McKenzie

(CNN)What was once the gleaming pride and joy of the Soviet space program now lies covered in dirt and bird droppings in a disused hangar in Kazakhstan.

With their broken windows, missing tiles and ransacked interiors, these shuttles are a haunting -- and fascinating -- piece of space history, rarely seen by the outside world.

Indeed, when 36-year-old Russian photographer Ralph Mirebs discovered the derelict shuttles and rocket at Baikonur Cosmodrome, he was touched by the sad end for these "wonderful winged machines."

A few years ago I talked with a NASA executive who had gone to Russia on business. They went to one of the Russian space bases that was co-located with an Air Force base.

Said he was out at lunch one day and saw a row of fighters several hundred yards away. He was able to walk right up to then, on the other side of a chain-link fence.

Mig-29s. Birds nesting in uncovered intakes, tires flat. Said the whole military side of the base looked like that.

Looks like the Rooskies reoriented towards Muslim outreach a bit earlier than NASA.

Breathtaking??? Only to the Communist News Network.

It is interesting to see the Soviet Union copied of the U.S. Space Shuttle program.

Although to be frank, the U.S. Space Shuttle was a copy of 1930s Nazi Germany Space proposed space program. The Space Shuttle is a very old design.

Former Nazi Scientist like Von Braun helped make our rocket program a reality.

Most of NASA (80% more or less) is a secret to the public. The Shuttle program was primarily there to win people over and give the public something that we can all love. Yes it had usefulness, but it’s primary a show piece.

I think NASA is great, and know they are well worth thetax payer money IMO.

Think of it this way. If mankind was thinking of the Space shuttle in the 1930s that was not released in the public until 50 years later. Imagine what they have today....

Here is another way to look at it. We are still told the SR71 is the fastest/or one of the fastest planes around. That plane was secretly flying around in the 1950s. Thinking about other technologies that have come to the public since the 1950s. So you can only imagine what they have now.

Trust me they do not show us the good stuff.

So for all you UFO freaks..... That’s not UFOs. That’s secret U.S. technology okay? It’s also why some of our politicians are so confident.

They are thieves and attempt to seek approbation by calling themselves “urban explorers”.

I know such vermin have stolen everything I saved for 20 years in order to have someplace to live in my later years.

I am irked by the lack of respect for private property, when somebody claims they are an ‘urban explorer’ who has found a “time capsule” on/in the private property of somebody else.

"I am irked by the lack of respect for private property..."

Well, they were commies; they don't believe in private property.

Pre-press unveiling, they were testing the triangle shaped stealth bombers over the white sands missile range in NM, people in Las Cruces and El Paso would call in UFO sightings.

Good thought provoking comments about technology. However one point I would take issue with is ‘confidence’ in our politicians. Based on the sad state our country is in today and decades of numerous failures and miscalculations, their arrogance and hubris seems completely unjustified. After all, they are pandering politicians first and foremost, not proven leaders with great strategic foresight. Its far more likely that that they have chosen to reduce/minimize funding for the “good stuff” so there will be more money to channel to favored political constituencies.

I don’t see a whole lot of competence in government. We seem surprised by everything. The only thing they are good at is fleecing the people and accelerating the steady decline of our once great nation.

Exactly!

All people are seeing DoD technology.

They are way ahead of the general public and let us see the old stuff.

For example, the F-117 was already flying in the early 70s. When was that finally released to the public?

At the time we were sill talking about the F-4 Phantoms that were used in Vietnam. They were even test flying the F-4 in the early 1950s.

Trust me they have plenty of money for the good stuff

The politicians are just trying to turn their dumb minions into a slave class that is dependent on government. Obviously there are not enough of them. Thus that’s why they have left the borders wide open

At the bottom level it’s a Socialist/Communism type system. At the top levels it’s Crony Capitalist/Fascism system.

The goal is to collapse everything and go back to some type of modern feudalistic society. Where the elites and their families like Soros, Gates and so fourth have all the great technology, life extensions, etc.... and then everyone else that are broke and struggling from day to day. An “Elysium” type society to use an analogy.

As foretold by George Orwell in “Nineteen Eighty-Four” nearly seventy years ago.

The Shuttle program was primarily there to win people over and give the public something that we can all love.

...

In the design phase the Shuttle was a military project disguised within a civilian program. The Shuttle had to be able to launch into polar orbit, grab a Soviet satellite and return to the launch site all in one orbit without the Soviets detecting it.

That’s probably the biggest reason it ended up being so dangerous.
