Help with iTunes/Windows issue?

Hi, guys. I've been trying to solve my issue for hours without any luck. So any suggestions are appreciated. I plugged my iPhone into my laptop, hoping to put some music onto it, but iTunes says that it (iTunes) is not connected to the internet and that it cannot detect my iPhone. My laptop can, however, detect my iPhone.

Both my phone and my laptop are connected to the internet. I've tried updating my phone, Windows, and associated drivers with no luck. I have restarted my phone, my laptop, and iTunes several times. I have uninstalled all Apple programs and reinstalled them at least three times. I ran a diagnostic test that I found on the Microsoft website that deals with Windows Update problems, but to no avail. I have turned off my anti-virus and made sure that iTunes is allowed through my firewall.

The main problem I've encountered during the diagnostics tests that I've run is that my "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" will not start. I assume this is what has been causing the problem because I have found nothing else that could explain my problems. I have scoured the internet for ways to make it run, but despite trying numerous different suggestions, I still get error messages.

I have run a scan and it didn't find any malware or viruses. My laptop is an HP and is under a year old, if this helps. Thanks very much for any help. I am about ready to tear out my hair. :/

New version of itunes came out this week. Do you have the latest? What about the phone. Running ios 8.4?

Yes. I updated both iTunes and my iPhone, and my laptop says that there are no new updates available for Windows.

Not yet. I’m thinking it’s a problem with my laptop, so I was waiting to see suggestions here before I decided to talk to Apple.

I cannot help your current problem, but I side-stepped iTunes altogether because I never liked iTunes - for an Apple product, it does not seem all that user-friendly.

I wanted a simple way to directly upload MP3 files to my iPhone and found an app in the iTunes store for a couple bucks that does the trick. It is called “Downloads - Downloader & Download Manager”. It combines a browser, media player and simple file manager. I can plug the iPhone’s USB/Power cable into the USB port on a Windows/Mac/Linux computer and make direct transfers of music, pictures, and video to Downloads folders, using the computer’s own file manager instead of iTunes. WiFi transfers are also possible. I can access and play those media directly within the Downloads program.

I bought it several years ago and it has worked well for me. I see there have a number of upgrades and some teething-pains since then, but I imagine it is still worth $5.00

Are you using the apple cord, or a replacement one. I know with my ham radios if you don’t use the “exact” cord, your computer wouldn’t ever see the radio.

Just a thought.

Yeah. That might be why iTunes won’t read my phone...but I don’t know why iTunes won’t connect to the internet. I’ll have to get a new iPhone cord, I guess. Too bad that they’re so flimsy and yet so expensive.
