An Amarillo police officer was fired Monday night after investigators determined he had sexual contact with a woman who reported that the officer sexually assaulted her on Sunday, police said.
On Monday, a woman reported the on-duty officer, later identified as Micah Meurer, had sexually assaulted her in her northwest Amarillo home.
Detectives from the departments Crimes Against Persons Unit were assigned to investigate the incident in cooperation with the 47th District Attorneys Office, police said.
Investigators found that the officer had responded to the womans home late Sunday evening. Detectives collected physical evidence and interviewed the woman and Meurer.
Acting Chief of Police Col. Kenneth Funtek placed the officer on administrative leave Monday. The departments internal affairs office launched a separate investigation, which revealed Meurer had sexual contact with the woman while on duty. Meurer was then fired effective 9 p.m. Monday for violations of internal rules, including acts which bring discredit to the officer and the department, police said.

Randall Sims, 47th district attorney, said he could not comment on the case.
I dont think my ethics allow me to do that, he said.

Clearly if his buddies had only hugged him, he would have felt better.
Thought this might be of interest to your ping list.
Rape? Based on the info at the top of the page it does not indicate rape, but sexual assault. There is a difference, no?

Otherwise there would be a rape allegation and a rape charge, right?
Oops. I went back to double check the top of the page, edited, leaving me so sorry for the cascade of posts.
“Sexual assault” is the legal term for rape.
Sexual assault can include the act of rape but is not the exclusive legal term for it. The charge can also be used to describe non-penetrative sexual contact.
Thanks for the clarification. Words are confusing. There is a word for rape. WTH don’t they use it.
Sexual Assault can include other disgusting behaviors short of actual rape. Using the term, SA, readers can be left not knowing anything about what happened, than before they read it.
Thanks.
He’s been fired instead of put on leave which indicates the charges might have enough evidence to convict him. If so, then how many others has he assaulted who have been too afraid to report on a cop? He’s only been working in Amarillo for a year and a half, so where did he work previously and why did he move?
Those are all good questions.
...if only police officers were allowed to marry, this might not have happened! /sarc>
