Thanks for the clarification. It still sounds as though the roommate may have made a mess for himself if the authorities want to get vengeful, which I expect they might.
It is a tough problem. Consider all the cases where somebody holds a grudge - at what point do you criminalize holding a grudge or attitude? Reflect on all the domestic violence (do you know somebody who doesn't get along with their spouse/other half, and has a temper control problem?), employee/employer difficulties (imagine how many people detest their boss), road rage, "stole my girlfriend" cases ...
Add to the calculus, criminalizing a failure to pipe up creates a mix of perpetual clam up and over-cautious reporting.
The attentive folks will notice that the current crop of government employees has adopted the attitude (and not without reason) that the people are not a moral or religipous people, and therefore, heavy-handed government is appropriate.
Election depends on not telling the people they deserve to be controlled with a heavy hand, so the fact of the matter (that we are an immoral people) is hidden and denied. All to the benefit of the ruling class, which, in order to continue to feel okay about being heavy-handed, has to maintain an immoral populace without telling the populace that it is out of control.
If gun control and gun confiscation is the end result of this, then the civil war that this punk wanted to start will become a reality.
They create the heavy-handedness, which leads to rebellion, which demands heavy-handedness to curtail.
We have here in America, a quickly, self-fulfilling prophecy, that only a blood-thirsty tyrant could love!
There are more than just the shooter guilty here.
His uncle or Dad gave him a 45 for his birthday, what about his psych drug taking and mental condition did they not know when they gave him the gun? Of course they knew! I’m for charging them too.
Am all for the 2nd Amendment, but damn, people with real mental issues don’t need to be given guns, just like the psychotic Iranians don’t need to be allowed to have nukes.
And much of that premised on superiority of law. There is also, in the mix of self-destruction, elevating a sort of diversity, and directly related to "superiorty of law," diminishing of the value of religion and "the old" societal norms.
The law fancies itself to be a moral force, and claims to be a moral force, but considerable parts of it are immoral and don't merit obedience.
What about the statements by the Black Panthers to kill all white people? They came out in public and said it. They even marched around armed to the teeth. So, do we prosecute the Panthers?
This roommate must have been a weirdo to room with this guy. He should be charged for accessory, knowing about this murderer’s plans.
I don't think the murderer gave his room mate the specifics and mouthed about what he was going to do. There are millions that mouth about what they would like to do but the normal ones don't act upon it. Without a visible or action one sees, its just trash talk, scary at that. Do we start reporting everyone that says something about killing someone? My parents would have been sent to Sing Sing before I was ten.
If he shops his story to the media _and_ someone actually pays him, I’d say our civilization is over, and the Muslims can have it.
