A 26-year-old mother faces several charges, including driving while impaired, in a Sunday morning crash that killed her 3-year-old son, according to police.
Chantee Tranise Boyd was in Mecklenburg jail under $405,000 bail after the crash on Billy Graham Parkway near Charlotte Douglas International Airport just after midnight Sunday. She was charged with felony death by vehicle, two counts of felony child abuse, reckless driving and DWI.
Boyd’s two sons were in her Honda as she drove south along Billy Graham Parkway. About 12:20 a.m., she drove off the left side of the road and into the median before striking a guardrail and going into the northbound lanes, police said. There, she collided head-on with Lincoln Continental.
Boyd’s 3-year-old was killed and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Her 7-year-old son and the other driver were taken to the hospital. They are expected to recover.
Before Sunday’s wreck, Boyd was awaiting trial on a charge of possession with intent to sell marijuana from late last year, according to a search of court records conducted by the Observer.
In 2008, she was arrested on a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon. It’s unclear how the case was adjudicated. Last year, she was also charged with providing drugs to an inmate, according to jail records.
Boyd is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash was under investigation. Police encouraged anyone with information on it to call Detectives M. Sammis or J. Reibold with the Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-336-8862.

“Condemn”, not “mock”, is the more appropriate term for judging her behavior. And, unless you, like her, killed your child while drunk you sure as hell can “condemn” her.
How about saying she is in deep trouble? Would that be mocking?
She’s got a history....hanging with wrong people as well....she hasn’t learned... and so here she is with a child dead....Probably no daddy for the kids either.

This woman most certainly does not know Jesus Christ. I do know Him, yet I have still sinned, even today. By word, by action, by act, or failure to act. Sin is in me. I am not fallen because I sin - I sin because I am fallen, with the rest of humanity. That is why Christ came, lived, and died.
I make a lot of arguments here on the forum about what is wrong - and I base most of that on the Bible. But this particular case is tragic. A little child was killed. His mother is lost, and now must deal with it.
I take no pleasure in it, nor will I.
I find it interesting that we are quick to find righteousness in ourselves in the parts of our lives we have it, but quick to find condemnation in others.

Congratulations on creating and posting this thread. Though frankly I fail to see why anyone on FR should be interested in this particular auto crash. I posted an article earlier this evening concerning an auto crash in Florida. The point of my posting the article was that the driver responsible for the crash was an 18-year old Hispanic migrant male worker who is not being charged for the murder of a four year old child in the accident. This news story infuriated me. It’s not the first one. There’s one almost every week in Florida alone. Are we becoming desensitized to the death and maiming of innocent Americans by Hispanic illegal aliens on America’s roads? My post got 7 replies. Something is radically wrong with FR and this country when an article on what Hilary Rodham Clinton wears gets 65 replies, while the posting of an article documenting a four year old American child losing his life at the hands of an illegal alien migrant worker on the road in America (with no consequences to the criminal who committed this act) essentially gets ignored. Just what’s going on at FR these days?
Thanks 4Runner. You’re right. Outside Williamsburg VA in the mid 90s a few of my friends were run over by a “wasted” illegal. One survived. Didn’t make the papers - never does!
