TAMPA — Did Tampa’s no-snitch culture cost another young teenager his life?

Edward Harris III thinks so. He says his son, 14-year-old Edward Harris IV, witnessed a stabbing last year and cooperated with police. A few months later, somebody shot at him five times but missed.

Late Sunday afternoon, Edward Harris IV was killed in a driveby shooting on the north side of Woodland Terrace Park.

Tampa police said the shooting did not appear to be a random act but stopped short of saying the motive for the homicide was retaliation in a part of Tampa where talking to police carries with it very real risks.

Blacks are more worried about one black thug who died in police custody than the thousands of blacks who are murdered by other blacks every year.

In April, someone shot at him five times at the corner of North 32nd Street and East Lambright Avenue. Harris, who was not wounded, gave statements that resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old boy on several felony counts, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

I think if this happened to my son I would move Heaven and Earth to get him out of that neighborhood.

Detectives initially had no leads because everyone who was at the scene, including Harris’ friends, fled, “leaving him there to die,” said Tampa police Assistant Chief Mary O’Connor.

It doesn’t matter that all of your kids school year needs to be repeated or that you have to get a new job.

Well he would not necessarily have to move

He could send the boy to temporarily live with relatives in another city or neighborhood.

I don’t mean to say the father was thoughtless but when your child’s life is in obvious danger you may have to get creative or even desperate.

Perhaps at a time like that you might have to think like the desperate people of the Great Depression and just put as many of your positions as you can in your car and head for California hoping for the best.

Today you might replace California with North Dakota.
