I hope the river levels go down safely. I am glad the Vatican insiders are scared, they are responsible.

It looks like things are really awful in a lot of the Houston area, Whyisa-I’m glad you are far enough away to be dry.

The river here is up to normal, from drought level after flooding at 19ft last weekend-it rained another couple of inches late last night, but the trail by the river was well above water this morning so it could hiked. We are going back to rain mode tomorrow, they say-I hope it isn’t as bad as before...

I saw catfish in the pool below the rapids, too-if I can’t find my fishing stuff, I’ll get another pole, line, hooks at the general store tomorrow, and catch some grasshoppers for bait-fresh caught catfish on the grill, seasoned with fresh herbs, pepper and brushed with butter...

This pope can congratulate himself for making the Church look like it exists in some socialist unicorn and rainbow land instead of the real world-never mind he has pissed off a bunch of cardinals and any Catholic who is not a liberal. I want to hear more of them come right out in public and admit making him pope was a huge mistake.

Since the pastor voted for Obama and intends to vote for Hillary, that tells me he is probably not all that aware of current events regarding her highness, no matter how many Bible verses she knows...

He’s probably a gay pastor who promotes same sex marriage.

That would be particularly unusual for a Baptist-I’ve always heard they are just as opposed to it as Catholics-I hope it is true...

I can’t find my fishing stuff anywhere-I guess I’ll have to buy just the basics at the general store after all-I have no intention of missing the opportunity for catfish, especially considering the steep price of the farmed ones even at the non-large-chain grocery 18 miles away.

Sounds like a fanciful 1930’s-era radio show about rockets, Martians, and maidens-in-disdressed. Very fictionearing!

Iffen that rodeo clown ever landed on the side of his head, he’d earn a bad satear award.

It is raining off and on-the river is running fast but is staying politely within the banks-so far...

Thanks for the concern ladies - we are fine, thankfully. More rain today and the rivers and streams out here are already out of their banks.... sadly in this area land near the River is not desireable so it is usually inhabited by those who do not purchase flood insurance. Many don’t want to leave their homes for fear of being robbed.... even with the police saying they will be watching the area.

Just the opposite out here in this part of BFE-properties on the river are valued at twice those not on water, and are all three or more acres-so most people have a mobile or little cabin on the highest ground, along with any barns and stock pens whether it is a vaca place-like this one-or where they live all year, so the rest can flood as it will with no damage to anything but maybe a fence, garden, pasture or shed-it is all trashy in a cool way, unlike the snooty neighborhoods a few miles downriver-they are the ones who yowl whenever the water comes into their houses, and never seem to get that it is because they build practically in the riverbed in a dry year because it looks pretty.

Most people do have flood insurance, though-it is not expensive unless you have a mansion 10 feet from the river instead of on the highest ground, and if they are that dumb, people deserve what they get.

All the same, when all is settled, I’ll find something on the non-river side of the road to build my nest on-I can get twice as much acreage for 1/2 the price I would pay for riverfront, and floods scare me anyway...

I caught two nice catfish this morning with earthworms that were brought up in the tomato plants by all the rain-just sat on one of the rock seats by the bank, baited two treble hooks, dropped the line in and waited. One fish is a meal-about a pound whole, and it will be grilled for dinner-the other one is a bit bigger and I filleted that one.

I didn’t explain myself very well - sorry. There are some beautiful neighborhoods with large, acreage homes, that are near the river - but the really low, bottom land (which is also near the train tracks, is inhabited by lower income folks. I’m sure the train tracks have more to do with the value of that land than anything else.
