Do you have an interesting, unusual passion that is almost overpowering? Is it by any chance a love of wet shaving?
One wet shaving forum online has almost 65,000 members. Theyve posted 400,000 threads, and more than seven million posts. And, of course, there are tens of thousands more who are guests gentlemen who browse the forum, but arent members and dont post.
Wet shaving forums have been around for about 10 years. What do they do? Well, they debate, inform, chat and enjoy themselves. For example, should you use distilled water, deionized water, or just plain water when you lather your brush? Many only use distilled water, and claim they get better lather, and can load their badger more easily.
Now, I say badger, but that may not be the case. Brushes can be boar, horsehair, or badger. If theyre badger, it could be just badger, fine badger, super badger, silvertip badger, or, the very best high mountain badger.
How many brushes does a wet shaver own? Some have up to a hundred. Most seem to have at least two dozen, all in rotation, so you can use a different one each day. And, they post pictures of their brush collections. Needless to say, some prefer a large knot (the amount of hair packed into the handle), and others like them much smaller. You, of course, bloom your brush before the shave. That is when you sit it in a bowl of hot water for five or 10 minutes before use.

Sounds like a bunch off folks with way too much time on their hands. Me? Out of the shower and scrape with a disposable. No lather, just hot water. Works just fine.
Pound em in with a hammer and bite em off on the inside.
Shaving - meh. How about toenail clipping?
Years ago I did Civil War renacting, and learned to shave with a straight razor. I have a beard now and just do a “clean up” of my neck and cheecks a couple of times a week, and I love using the straight razor for that - shaving soap, brush, washing bowl, hot water and towel. Finish with bay rum. It just makes a dull task fun.
I’m going to add this to my long list of things I’m not doing right.
Out of the shower? I prefer shaving while in the shower. Saves a step.
When I was a teenager/young adult it was Gillette Foamy and a safety razor. Since then, I do the same as you - step out of the shower, scrape away with the disposable. 15 seconds maximum.
“... I prefer shaving while in the shower.”
Same here...with whatever bar of soap is available.
Yep, in the shower. The beard is so moist I never get cut.
Gillette Fusion disposable. Best shave ever and the razor seems to last forever.
I’ll spend a fair amount of time and money on perfecting my materials and technique when I have to do something frequently.
Heck, I have a friend who’s a carpenter who opined out that 9 out of 10 people don’t really know how to use a hammer properly and I think he was right. As I like to shave nearly every day, including my head, an hour of research or a few bucks for experimenting are worth it.
Ihad the perfect combination. The Gillette Microtrac disposable (the thin brown one) and Colgate Shave Cream. Gillette dropped the MicroTrac about 15 years ago (I still have a cache of eight left) and Colgate dropped their iconic shave cream about five years ago. My shaving world is no more.
LOL - I haven't heard that boast in years!
Agreed, can't imagine the razor evolving much beyond that.
I thought the three blade model I had was ridiculous but good until I got a free Fusion in the mail. That did it

Ditto
Ever since Rush was advertising the Panasonic Smooth Operator, I’ve been using wet/dry electric razors. My current one is a Norelco Sensotouch 3d.
Enthusiasts tend to be a little nutty. I collect tobacco pipes and tobaccos, and go to pipe shows, participate in blogs, and belong to a pipe club. People who collect, tend to have more than one collection.
One of the smokers forums has a wet shaving section, in which they discuss razors, brushes, shaving soaps.
How may pipes does a pipe collector need? How many brushes does wet shaving enthusiast need? How many watches does a watch collector need? How many beer steins does a beer stein collector need? How many paintings does an art collector need? one more.
