My dog Hope hates Hot Air Balloons with a passion that has not diminished in the ten years we have live here in the Hot Air Balloon Capital. I worry about what happens if she ever catches one!

Something was out there. You jokingly suggest it wasn’t an axe murderer.

I live immediately adjacent to miles and miles of forested Rocky Mountains. My dog will sometimes bark while looking out a window. When she barks like that, it is to get me to come and join her. Sometimes I see immediately what she sees, sometimes I don’t and just walk away. But, sometimes I sit and watch with her, and soon enough I see the deer or coyote or ground squirrel that got her attention.

My bulldog discovered a burrow of tiny baby bunnies today.
He keeps going outside to check on them, make sure they are OK

It’s not a joke that many animals are angels.

I can just say “hey” to our dog and it moves its paws off the linoleum.

I roomed with a guy in college and we rented an old house in the midst of a junk yard of old mining equipment. His dog had all sorts of stuff strewn around in the yard. You could go tell her to “get your stick” and she would bound off behind the house and after awhile come back with a stick.

Play fetch for awhile and then say “Go find your ball” and she would come back with a ball.

Every once in a while we would get a visitor at the door. Strangers from work, mailmen, an unknown neighbor, etc. She would let out a woof to let you know someone was there.

One time she started barking her head off. The doorbell rings. She goes ballistic and pawing at the door and barking her head off. The weirdest thing! I grabbed a bat and looked out the window. Two middle-aged ladies are at the door!

I put the dog, still trying to tear down the door into another room. Come back and open the door. “Hello - Do you know the true name of God?” They were Jehovah Witnesses.

Months go by with a woof here or there with someone at the door. Then AGAIN she goes ballistic with her barking, trying to get through the door, etc.

That second (and last) time it was the Mormons! Weird.

I used to watch Scooby Do with her after classes. Got her trained to let out long howls when I would ask “What does Scooby Do say when he sees a ghost?”

“It’s not a joke that many animals are angels.”

It is believed (and in the Bible) that demons can possess animals as well. I have heard several weird stories from trustworthy people.

The latest was from a guy that lives in a shack with several junk cars that “he’s in the process of rebuilding”. He told of this one cat that was always causing him problems. Some seemed intentional. The last straw was when he got up out of his chair on the porch and the cat coming out of nowhere and running under his feet and sent him tumbling. Not the first time either.

The guy looked at the cat and said “That’s it. The next time you do something like that I’m shooting you right then and there.”

The cat slunk away under the nearest junk car.

The guy didn’t see that cat again for weeks. Until he went to go pull some stuff stashed underneath the car. There was the cat - dead.

I brought up the idea that rather than wait for him to shoot it suddenly, and the demon be without a body (bad stuff for a demon to be without a body!), the demon waited until another critter came near and jumped ship.

I thought he would laugh at me, and perhaps rightly so. Instead “Heh. Well- that makes a lot of sense. Would sure explain all the trouble she caused me. None of my other cats ever did.”

Hubby used to work....2 days on, 2 off, for 3 cycles then 8 days off. Was a constant rotation. Our dog always knew exactly when he was due home even though nothing had changed. The day he was due home about 7:30 in the morning she would go sit by the living room window and watch the street. About 8:20 he’d come rolling in.
