Back in the early 1960s some of those bench seats had decorative metal buttons which heated up like branding irons. I had to drape a towel over the seat when riding to the swimming pool.

Hand choke. I don’t know if completely true or not, but my Grandfather used to tell me Granny (his mother) hated their first car that had an automatic choke because she didn’t have anything to hang her purse on (implying she’d pull the choke out and hang her purse on it.)

Yeah, I never had problems, either. He was talking about bushings in the transmission itself. I had a Muncie, I think it would have run without oil, let alone me holding onto the shifter...
