College should be a place of new ideas and challenging views. Instead, liberals have made it a place of fear and intimidation.
The root of nearly every free-speech infringement on campuses across the country is that someone—almost always a liberal—has been offended or has sniffed out a potential offense in the making. Then, the silencing campaign begins. The offender must be punished, not just for justice’s sake, but also to send the message to anyone else on campus that should he or she stray off the leftist script, they too might find themselves investigated, harassed, ostracized, or even expelled.
If the illiberal left can preemptively silence opposing speakers or opposing groups— such as getting a speech or event canceled, or denying campus recognition for a group—even better.
In a 2014 interview with New York magazine, comedian Chris Rock told journalist Frank Rich that he had stopped playing college campuses because of how easily the audiences were offended. Rock said he realized some time around 2006 that “This is not as much fun as it used to be” and noted George Carlin had felt the same way before he died.
Rock attributed it to “Kids raised on a culture of ‘We’re not going to keep score in the game because we don’t want anybody to lose.’ Or just ignoring race to a fault. You can’t say ‘the black kid over there.’ No, it’s ‘the guy with the red shoes.’ You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive.” Sadly, Rock admitted that the climate of hypersensitivity had forced him and other comedians into self-censorship.
This Orwellian climate of intimidation and fear chills free speech and thought. On college campuses it is particularly insidious.

The radicals on campus these days are the Traditional, Family-Value, Christians.

Even when I was college three decades ago, their love of Joseph Stalin and his methods was palpable. Virtually every book in the college library was about preparing for our Brave New Communist Future.
I remember when Powers declared ‘why should I pay for someone else’s unhealthy living?’ (paraphrase) She was/is all on board with Socialized Medicine. But she seems to be awakening to some of her side’s shortcomings. Let’s hope she sees through Obamacare at some point. She is a known Lib and maybe they will listen to one of their own.
Yet more proof that a stopped clock is right twice a day. Powers is a flaming lib and wrong on just about every issue out there. She, herself is guilty of this kind of thing many times...but I guess that her ox has gotten gored by some of the really radical Leftists, so now she’s squealing like a pig. Good, maybe some of the libs are beginning to learn.
One of the required books in collegeFreshmen English in the early 70’s was ‘Johnny Got His Gun’. I found the book appalling, but sure knew enough not to voice my opinion in class.
Now that many of themselves are being attacked by the same totalitarian-minded students, a number of them have finally become aware of the sickness they helped create.
I was also on campus at about that time. We, of course, had a Black Student Alliance. One of the guys on my freshman floor decided to put up a table for the White Student Alliance, just because. Well, you should have seen the outcry, and the reaction from the school. Frankly, he did it as both a joke, and to call attention to how prejudicial this was. He was right, but being right doesn’t mean much lately - that’s what PC does, it places some degree of official approval on lying.
It amazes me than anyone would actually pay money to by Kirsten Powers’s new book.

Our campus was overrun with Nuclear Freeze activists. My brother had a friend whose dad worked for a defense contractor. When approached by these activists he’d look them in the eye and say “I like war. My dad makes missiles. Nuclear war is what keeps food on my family’s table.”
Such befuddled looks you have never seen in your life.
The article could be rewritten to cover more topics, and titled “How Liberals Ruined EVERYTHING”

I doubt it. Conservatives/libertarians believe that people should be able to do any crazy thing they want (rock climbing, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, etc.) but if they injure themselves they should have insurance as it isn't societies obligation to pay for their reckless behavior. Progressives believe that society is obligated to take care of people so the only way to avoid paying for someone else's unhealthy living is to outlaw everything they see as unhealthy living (except sodomy and other favored pastimes of liberals).

Progressives have a deeply ingrained hatred of Conservatives.
What “mainstream” Progressives like Powers are realizing is that to the new generation of Progressives THEY are “conservative”
And thats scaring the hell out of them.
Does your college have a Sociology department?
They may as well call it the Karl Marx department.
