AR-15 .223/556 scope question
Me | 4-27-15 | RandallFlagg

Posted on 04/27/2015 11:55:26 PM PDT by RandallFlagg

I'm working through trying to make my home-built AR-15 better.
I remember on another thread someone mentioning a really good scope, and they posted a picture of it.
I searched through FR's and my PC's history for it, but could not find it at all.
The one mentioned looked like a Trijicon ACOG, but it was from a different company, and was around $500.00

Any help finding this (Or something similar) will be highly appreciated.
I'm currently running an AimSport 4X32 that I tore off my old Hi-Point 4095 Carbine.
My rifle has a Faxon Firearms 18" stainless heavy fluted barrel with a mid-length gas system. The gas block has a rail that's just a bit lower than the upper receiver's flat top -so the MagPul iron sights won't work on it (They'd melt anyway).

It seems to work well enough, but I've been obsessing over this for six days now.
I figured that if I posted this thread in the wee hours of the morning, someone rampaging through all of the, "Banglist," threads might find it and reply...
And it wouldn't interrupt the daily news threads and conversations.

It's been a long day, though. And, I must get to bed. I'll respond to anyone's posts after I wake up.

Thank you, FRiends

I have a Leupold AR Mod 1 3x9x40 with the fire dot illuminated reticle on a stag model 8. It’s in the $500 range and is a very good scope for the money. Anything by vortex would be just as good IMO. I have one of their PST vipers 6-24x on a bolt gun and it is excellent.

I'm looking at the Burris AR scopes. That said, lots of nice stuff in that price range.

Obviously, look through the glass and see what fits you.

The Leupold rifle man scope is one of the best bargains on the market Right now. You want to look at their Patrol series they are really nice and I your price range

The VX-3s are really good also.

I use to buy Burris until they messed me over on a warranty I own 6 of them Now I buy Leupolds or better I have 12 or more of them.

On my ARs I have a leupold VX-4 1.75x5 and a 4x14 VX3 with the varmint plex

They are not really “scopes” in the conventional sense, but it is very hard to beat the EO Tech sights. They look like scopes, and they are the fastest sights I have ever used. They are in your price range.

I’m quite fond of my Aimpoint Comp ML2. It’s not for long range precision work but on my M4gery it works very well.

If I had a full length I’d seriously consider a Leoupold.

Forgot to mention I used a LaRue mount. Pricey but worth it.

I have a Burris AR332 on my AR10 carbine. I also have the quick release mount and ARD (killflash). It’s a nice little, rugged, compact package...5 reticle brightness settings in green and 5 in red. When it’s off or the battery is dead you still have a black, etched reticle. Early production had some issues with canted reticles, but that’s been overcome. The BDC is graduated for either 5.56 or 7.62. You just have to memorize the tables to use it for it’s fullest potential. At fixed 3X, it’s suitable for CQB drills, but still enough magnification to help out nicely out to 500m or so with man size targets, but not by any means a precision target scope. When I first bought it a few years ago, I stupidly over-torqued a mounting bolt. The Burris customer service folks were great, and sent me two for free the same day I called.

Ah, c'mon: Trijicon ACOG TA-30. Best combat scope, bar none. Rugged, precise, great reticles, solid illumination. Expensive? Sure - but what price do you put on you defense system?

If it's good enough for our armed forces, why settle for the knockoffs?

To me you need to first decide at what range(s) and conditions you might be engaging targets, under what light conditions, do you wear eyeglasses, do you intend to be mobile/kinetic/taking it to the bad guys or mainly defensive?

Form follows function.

After considering all of the above, my .223/5.56 ARs have Eotech holographic sights. My .308/7.62 ‘reach out and touch’ firearms have 50mm Nikons with 45 degree offset iron sights

What your intended use is will drive your optics choices.

My 8 cents

What’s that optic you have on the C93?

I have an AR with the Nikon P-223 1 to 4X, very nice scope, and on a bolt gun a M-223 3 to 12X. Using a 55 gr. boattail, the scope, once zeroed, and be dialed to any distance just by turning the elevation knob to that distance.

For faster hold over, get the BDC reticle.

I looked on their site, and couldn’t find the scope mentioned there.

It looks like an AGOC, but a little longer.

Burris didn’t have the scope I was looking for.
