The research and maps, which span a large area of the sky, are the product of a massive effort of an international team from the US, UK, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and Brazil. They announced their new results at the American Physical Society (APS) meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.
According to cosmologists, dark matter particles stream and clump together over time in particular regions of the cosmos, often in the same places where galaxies form and cluster. Over time, a “cosmic web” develops across the universe. Though dark matter is invisible, it expands with the universe and feels the pull of gravity. Astrophysicists then can reconstruct maps of it by surveying millions of galaxies, much like one might infer the shifting orientation of a flock of birds from its shadow moving along the ground.
DES scientists created the maps with one of the world’s most powerful digital cameras, the 570-megapixel Dark Energy Camera (DECam), which is particularly sensitive to the light from distant galaxies. It is mounted on the 4-meter Victor M. Blanco Telescope, located at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in northern Chile. Each of its images records data from an area 20 times the size of the moon as seen from earth.
In addition, DECam collects data nearly ten times faster than previous machines. According to David Bacon, at the University of Portsmouth’s Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, “This allows us to stare deeper into space and see the effects of dark matter and dark energy with greater clarity. Ironically, although these dark entities make up 96% of our universe, seeing them is hard and requires vast amounts of data.”

Factual science now involves “the unobserved but inferred”. It has to be there because our current worldview is that we believe it’s there.

No, we theorize it's there because that's the only thing we can come up with that fits what we can observe. If you want to win a Nobel Prize, show that the measurable data fits another interpretation better.

Don Scott of thunderbolts.info calls dark matter “Fabricated Ad-hoc Inventions Repeatedly Invoked in Efforts to Defend Untenable Scientific Theories”, or “FAIRIE-DUST” for short.... Dark matter is basically a junk-science artifact of the idea of a gravity-only cosmology.
I don’t particularly care about winning the Nobel prize.
I just don’t think theory should be passed off as fact. Considering the current theory is just the current theory. Before that there were other theories that didn’t pan out. But some are still clinging to them. This one too will probably not pan out. But will be embraced as fact for as long as it is, until another hot little theory supplants it.
In the early 1900’s, some chemists and physicists still questioned the atomic theory of matter. Einstein’s paper on Brownian motion (not that he called it that) is one of the classical confirmations of the molecular hypothesis.

Not seeing something and something not being observable are two entirely different things. We can detect electrons. We can detect gravitational fields (heck, we can even feel those things). We can also construct sensible equations describing their behavior, and make testable predictions about them.
On the other hand, the way scientists decide if “dark matter” is somewhere is if their equations’ predictions don’t match the observations. They can’t construct an equation describing dark matter, or make any testable predictions about it. All they can say is “well our equations don’t work, so something must be there”. That’s not science.
Those are proven things you mention. You’re a deliberate charlatan for such a specious comparison.

Actually, they stole “the unobserved but inferred” concept from the Global Warming scammers Hansen, Jones, Mann, Gore, and et al.
Have you considered that most murderers in prison are there because of ‘unobserved but inferred’ evidence?
Why don’t you hold the criminal justice system to the same standards you want to impose on scientific research? Do you feel threatened or something?
