Maria Altmann, an octogenarian Jewish refugee, takes on the Austrian government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family.
We saw this movie tonight and just loved it. The Austrian interiors were sumptuous, and Helen Mirren was outstanding -- approaching her role with tenacity and good humor.
We give it 4 thumbs up and 5 stars. It's the best movie we've seen this year.

The trailer has sold me on seeing this.
It’s already in my Netflix queue. Looking forward to seeing it when it’s out on DVD.
glad to hear it is good... plan to see this one...
It’s about a clan that’s verklemmt because the Krauts copped their Klimt.
Wife and I loved it... 10/10, and we rarely rate anything a ten.

Great movie with flashbacks to Austria to when she was young. We’re seen the painting and the other five in NYC.c
Going to see it tomorrow. Can’t wait.
Yup... I refuse to pay Hollywood any money with few exceptions, to go to any movie...
When I do, maybe once or twice a year, I sit with slack jawed amazement watching the trailers for movies that people will spend their hard earned money to see such filth and garbage or utter nonsense ...
LOL! A kleine klopp on dein kopp for for such a pun! hehehe
I find it odd that there is so much ardor devoted to helping Jews or their descendants get family property back.
At least relative to the immensely larger expropriation of property in Communist countries. I would venture to guess Commies stole at least 50x the value the Nazis did.
But nobody cares.
I thought the casting was excellent — particularly the young adult Maria. She really looked like a young Helen Mirren. For a movie with flashbacks, this was very well done — seamless as it told the story. You never lost your place for a moment.
Both leads looked like the real characters who lived this tale.
I sincerely doubt that. The difference, I think, is that those Communist regimes are still in power.
I used to go to the matinees with my youngest son whenever a new Marvel movie came out, and we used to go to the drive-in here for their double features. The drive-in closed, and my son moved to Indianapolis last year, so rather than go by myself, I’ll just watch them via Netflix.
