Nope. It was on the way to San Diego, where the Mormon Battalion was headed. They decided that since there were springs here (Las Vegas is “The Meadows”) they would set up a fort for future travelers. There is an actual landmark almost downtown that is The Old Mormon Fort. It isn’t very large, but it is very interesting.

They also had a fort in Santa Fe, which was mostly Spanish at the time. Their entire trek is pretty interesting.

Huh? Are you saying that Mormons invented the grid for streets?

I doubt they invented it, but in all the early settlements where they established themselves for any length of time, the streets are on a true grid pattern. Newer subdivisions can go in any direction.

They also laid out the original streets wide enough to allow for expansion of the traffic lanes without destroying existing buildings.

On one of the big anniversaries of the mormons wagon train coming to San bernardino, they had a wagon train come down from Salt Lake. You could swee the train off in the dessert west of I-15. Interesting.

Several years ago, they re-enacted the exodus from MO by taking a wagon train as close to the old Oregon Trail as they could get. Some of the wheel tracks are visible to this day in some outlying areas in NE and WY.

And, I forgot to add, that would have been following the trail that the Mormon Battalion had made, if it was close to San Bernardino.

I think there’s a statue at Euclid and Foothill in Upland.

National geo had a great Oregon Trail story some years back. They showed wheel tracks. Best wishes. May we call you MF, if not, good day.

Mostly cloudy and 71 here now-it started drizzling while I was at work, but it isn’t supposed to really rain until tonight or tomorrow...

Some words fit some individuals
Swimming in the tank of sharks
Known as the capitol-and where
People have been offed in parks

“Delusional” describes Obama
“Entitled” best fits his big wife
“Frat boys” for DEA and FBI-
“Robbed” for a taxpayer’s life

The Clintons have many words
Bill as “horndog” is understood-
“Venal” is mostly for Hillary
But does both of them no good...

Most FReepers just call me ‘Face, and that’s just fine.

It’s good to meet you!

I give my pets treats every night a couple of hours after dinner-about 8 or so-as sort of a pet dessert, which they have gotten used to. Last night Husky girl carried the favorite smelly beef crunchy thing I gave her to her usual spot, sat down and began munching.

Titus was attracted to the crunching noise, finished his party mix and headed over. He reached a paw right under Husky girl’s mouth and snagged a piece of the beef thing that had fallen on the floor, but it was too big to fit into his mouth to chew. He carried it off a few feet, held it with a paw and tried chewing tiny pieces off the edge-he made a face at the taste, and walked away-I don’t blame him-the things smell worse than pig ears...

Well, well-I just saw that Menendez is indicted...

A+++ Beautiful day here, just a tad chillier than it looks. It’s 45°outside and sunny. I did just walk in from the car with no coat on....just long sleeves and a sweater.
