A tourist visiting Svalbard in Norway's Arctic during the solar eclipse has been mauled by a polar bear, said police.

The Czech man, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries when a bear attacked the tent he was sleeping in on the remote archipelago.

Some 3,000 polar bears live in the region, outnumbering the 2,500 inhabitants.

Pretty lame mauling if the victim only suffered minor injuries.

And what's with polar bears outnumbering humans? I thought they were endangered because of Globull warming?

From the article:
“A person in the group shot at the bear with a handgun, prompting the animal to flee. “
That is why nobody got eaten.

Lucky guy. They usually eat you. Unlike the black and brown bear they are not after your twinkies they are after you. :-)

Polar bears look for tourists who were in Svalbard during the solar eclipse. They’re like a delicacy.

I wonder if the mauling was triggered by the tourist telling the bear; “I love you bear.” The bear was simply enraged by the smarmy liberal mouthing.

It was a minor mauling. It made the man mildly enraged about the slightly appalling safety conditions. Everyone should have just a titch of outrage or at least negligible panic about it.

When I was a kid my friend had a polar bear rug in the family room that was killed in Norway by a local doctor.

It was huge and the head, teeth and claws were massive. Overall length was probably 10-12 feet.

Why did the doctor kill the family room in Norway? Couldn’t he’ve done it right there? :-)

Those things are truly scary. I read a story a long time ago about how in the old days sometimes an Inuit village would lose a lot of people to a Polar bear as it would come back every night and dig out one igloo. Frightening.

There is a solar eclipse here in the USA on April 4th.
Beware of Grizzly bears!
