As a rabbinic student in 1980s New York, Denise Eger lived away from other seminarians. She quietly started a group for fellow gay and lesbian students, but held the meetings in another borough. By the time of her ordination, she wasnt formally out, but her sexuality was known, and no one would hire her. Later, she took the only job offered, with a synagogue formed expressly as a religious refuge for gays.
Since then, the Reform Jewish movementEgers spiritual home since childhoodhas traveled a long road toward recognizing and embracing same-sex relationships. That journey has led this week to Philadelphia, where Eger will be installed Monday as the first openly gay president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the rabbinical arm of Reform Judaism.
It really shows an arc of LGBT civil rights, Eger said in a phone interview ahead of the convention where she will take office. I smile a lotwith a smile of incredulousness.

Spiritual advisor to a truth challenged, alcoholic lesbian who hopes to be elected the first woman President.
Why don’t they just merge with the Episcopals and the PCUSA?
If not one big happy family, it could at least be one medium sized gay family.
In terms of their goals for society, they are merged there.
Haven’t various Hebrew sects in the past become the object of a mighty smite from God? Whatever happened to Sodom and Gomorrah?
This turning to embracing the “Golden Calf” of same-sex marriages is likely to incur a similar display of righteous divine wrath.
When it strikes, do not look back to watch the carnage, lest you, too, be turned into a pillar of salt, like Lot’s wife.
They are anti-G-d, anti-Torah pigs. They are lost. They have rejected HaShem and his Law. Their payday is coming and they won’t like it.
I guess some folks just never learn.
The inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah weren’t Hebrews that I recall, nor were the Egyptians. The Philistines were also smitten with cancer-like diseases when they took possession of the Ark of the Covenant, especially when they had the temerity to put it before an idol of their false god Dagon.
From what I remember, they tried to get the visiting Angels to have sex with them. From what happened the Angels were not exactly pleased with the proposition.
Waiting for the Episcopalians to do it first?
They are so stupid. First of all, Reform synagogues are so top heavy with women that Jewish men do not feel comfortable in them. Every person of leadership is a woman, often including the rabbi, and there is nowhere for male interests and community in these feminist dens. Their liturgy has taken all the male pronouns out of the Torah. I wouldn’t be surprised if they stepped up Brisses to cut a lot more than the foreskin off. And now lesbian families heading a congregation. What man would go to her for help in a crisis? Sad.
Even worse, they intended to rape them. And even when they were stricken with blindness, they tried groping for Lot’s door afterwards.
“the Reform Jewish movementEgers spiritual home since childhoodhas traveled a long road toward recognizing and embracing same-sex relationships.”
How many times must I say this!
The correct adjective in “Reformed Jew” is not “Reformed” - it is “Deformed”.
We hope you took notes this time.
;-)
This is correct:
- - “the Deformed Jewish movementEgers spiritual home since childhoodhas traveled a long road toward recognizing and embracing same-sex relationships.”
According to one Moshe Rabbenu, queers were “an abomination” in the eyes of the Almighty.
One can’t help wondering what would be the response of either Moses or the Almighty to the “installation” of a lesbian rabbi.
I once tried to read the Bible from Genesis to the end and I got hung up somewhere in Proverbs. I think I need to restart on this. I've read the New Testament a lot but not much of the Old.
Eger Beaver makes good?
And those Jewish women practically worship Lilith!
If you don’t know who she is read this.

I did not know the Governor of Oregon was Jewish
