The Life and Death of Julius Caesar
...
Soothsayer: Ceasar!
CAESAR: Ha! who calls?
CASCA: Bid every noise be still: peace yet again!
CAESAR: Who is it in the press that calls on me? I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music,Cry 'Caesar!' Speak;
Caesar is turn'd to hear.
Soothsayer: Beware the ides of March.
CAESAR: What man is that?
BRUTUS: A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.
CAESAR: Set him before me; let me see his face.
CASSIUS: Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar.
CAESAR: What say'st thou to me now? speak once again.
Soothsayer: Beware the ides of March.
CAESAR: He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass.

Julius Caeser has a lot in common with Barack Obama. Not that Obama was a military genius or anything. Quite the contrary. Brutus was a hero. Do not draw any connection that was not intended to be drawn.

No, Cassius, no: think not, thou noble Roman,
That ever Brutus will go bound to Rome;
He bears too great a mind. But this same day
Must end that work the ides of March begun;
And whether we shall meet again I know not.
Therefore our everlasting farewell take:
For ever, and for ever, farewell, Cassius!
If we do meet again, why, we shall smile;
If not, why then, this parting was well made.

“Quite the contrary. Brutus was a hero.”
Zactlky. Julius was entraalizing all control of the empire in Rome and Rome ended up as a very large Imperial Empire.
Julius was not a good guy.

Rome was a republic, then Julius Caesar usurped power. No one rose a finger to stop him. (well, they DID assassinate him), but his nephew Agustus stepped into the breach, cementing the role of emperor. For the next century, many Romans longed for a return to the Republic. History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.
P.S. the role of Augustus tonight will be played by Hillary Rodham.

A while back, I wrote a parody of
Julius Caesar. I called it
Perhaps I'll post MY rendering of this scene.
