The state that includes Mumbai, India’s financial capital, this week became the first in the country to ban the possession and sale of beef, imposing fines and up to five years in prison for violations. The ban in the populous western state of Maharashtra, which was passed this week, came as an amendment to a 1972 law prohibiting the slaughter of cows, which has been expanded to ban the slaughter of bulls, bullocks and calves. The slaughter of water buffaloes will still be allowed, subject to permission from the authorities.

Water buffalo meat is better than cow meat. And they yield more and richer milk. My parents always had a few of those animals on their farm.

Does it taste gamey?
Lamb meat is delicious, as is buffalo, but they are pretty pungent too depending on the size of the animal and age.

"Water buffalo meat is better than cow meat. And they yield more and richer milk."

Interesting. You learn something gnu every day.

(Yes - I know they are not the same animal.
I've just been itching to use that joke.)

So no pork...no beef...guess I’ll order the chicken curry.

At least the Chinese have no such compunctions. Beef, pork, snake, cat...bring it on!

Well, there is a McDonalds in Mumbai. I guess they'll have to settle for veggie patties now.

"So what’s gnu with ewe?"

Combined and properly seasoned they would make some bitchin' Gyros.

Or possibly a nice Pljeskavica with fresh Kajmuk.

That's OK, as the burgers aren't made of beef to begin with...

They're Hindu-friendly!!!

Water buffalo meat is better than cow meat.

Reminds me of a quote from Pulp Fiction in which Jules tells Vincent "well, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie but I'll never eat the ******"

It's bad enough that mozzarella is made from water buffalo milk....I'll pass on buffalo sirloin and stick with the cow variety.

Friend of mine had one of the early PC shops in San Diego back in the early 80s. He had some sleazy competition from an Indian owned shop. Liked to tweak them by walking in wearing a “Eat Moe Beef” ballcap.....

Maybe they should REQUIRE everyone to eat pork. That way the state will be free of the followers of MoHAMed.
