While general managers and coaching staff are usually in charge of trade decisions, we can't help but wonder if a letter written by one NHLer's daughter influenced his deal.
Jordyn Leopold, the 11-year-old daughter of defenceman Jordan Leopold, penned a letter to the Minnesota Wild asking them to add her dad to their roster and return him to his home state where his family lives.
They did.
Leopold was traded from the Blue Jackets to the Wild for Justin Falk and a fifth-round pick ahead of Monday's NHL trade deadline.
In the letter, Jordyn expresses how "lonely" the family is without having dad around, and vice versa.
Showing off her hockey savvy, Jordyn goes on to explain how the Wild "needs some more D men" because they have not been winning games, promoting her dad as the right choice to fill that gap.
She finishes the letter politely begging the Wild to "please, please, please ask the Jackets if you guys can get him!
Jordyn's mother, Jamie Leopold, told KFAN1003, who first broadcast the letter, "My daughter just wanted her daddy home."
As Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen said after the trade, "it isn't always about business."
Leopold has played 677 career games with the Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, and is now finally heading home to Minnesota.
Neat story. I don’t follow hockey much these days, but that guy sounds like a true “journeyman” player.
Go Wild!
Jordyn Rules! This made my day. Serious.
I really don’t follow hockey at all. I thought the NIL team in Minnesota was the North Stars.
Tears in my eyes. Sweet. Poor little girl wants daddy near home! Nice story. Hope he helps the Wild beat all the teams but my faves. Lol.
Yep, mine too..........with that I'm gonna sign off with a smile.
Hockey ping!
Sorry, I was out of town for the week.
Nice story... this isn’t exactly woman’s ice hockey but kind of close, once I went to a chess tournament and there in the same building was an ice rink and some high school girl’s team trained there. So, sweet story.
