It's an EXPENSIVE world, after all: Disney Magic Kingdom prices set to top $100

Fans of Mickey Mouse, Frozen and It's a Small World are going to have to pay more than $100 if they want to see all three in one place. Tickets prices at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, are going up, possibly as soon as this weekend. Single-day ticket prices are expected rise to $105 for the Magic Kingdom and $99 for the three other resort parks - Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and the Animal Kingdom Park.

In January 2005 a single day ticket was $59.75. Over ten years the ticker price has increased by 75% or an annualized rate of 6%. I can only think of higher ed and medical costs with that type of sustained price increases. Of course, like most people who travel there I buy the multiple day passes.

Well, setting aside days for every minority group thinkable like LGBTQ-whatever in favor of families with children who spend a buttload costs a lot. There’s probably a butt-load with these select groups, but it ain’t cash.

I was in Walt Disney World in 2013 in off season.
Wasted tones of $$$ waiting in lines for everything.

Went to Disneyland last October and got a much better investment of time and $$$.

Supply and demand. It’s a finite space (you can drive around it in 15 minutes) packed about as full as can be. If you’re going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars just to get there, $100/day isn’t bad at all.

Best time to go is during special evening events when the crowd is limited to 20% of capacity. No lines.

Over $100 for what amounts to the "Line Ride." No thanks.

The wife and I visited Disney World with my stepchildren and grandkids last September. What my stepdaughter did is plan everything one year before we visited to get the best prices on everything from accommodations to food to rides. She saved us over one thousand dollars with discounts. Plan well before, and you can save a lot of money. She even got us these special tickets (fast pass) at good rates where you avoid the long lines and get in quicker.

Overall while it was enjoyable, it's mostly for kids. The food was pretty good at the various restaurants especially the Polynesian and the French restaurants, but even the cafeteria had good food. The rides were fun (but short.) Most enjoyable event for me was the Indiana Jones act at Hollywood Studios. The most annoying/boring ride was the It's A Small World. Avoid that like the plague.

I’ve lived in Fla. since 1969 (2 hours north of Disney world) and haven’t been there since the 80s. Haven’t missed it or any other attraction in Orlando at all for that matter.

Saw a documentary a few years ago about how Disney world came about in Fla. There were actually interviews with people that were city council members and the mayor that helped bring Disney to Orlando, to a person they all said if they had known what was going to happen to Orlando because of Disney they would never have voted to go after them. BIG regrets what with all the incentives and concessions Orlando offered just to lure Disney in.

They must be trying to recoup the cost overruns from their "nextgen" IT wristband project. They also canceled many Disneyland refurbishments because of it.

Isn’t Disney World a de jure private city?

Still have 1-day left on my 1993 ticket, cost me $39.50 per day. The increase isn't unreasonable over that period of time.

People going to Disneyworld don't really notice the daily cost. Vacationers get the tickets as part of their vacation package. Locals get annual passes. People don't have a cheaper option and don't want to pay those rates, there are plenty of less expensive entertainment options in FL.

“Isn’t Disney World a de jure private city?”

I’m afraid I can’t answer that, have to do some research. However it’s set up I would imagine it’s to disney’s advantage.

I remember as a kid we had relatives in Orlando (before disney) it was a sleepy little town full of orange groves, a real nice place, but now, I haven’t been down the I4 corridor in probably 20 years just to avoid it.

Having said all that I guess it’s good for the city and state but not sure it’s done anything for me personally..........that’s kinda selfish I guess. lol

*****

Is Obama going to get free Disney passes for illegal aliens because the cost is unbelievably and grotesquely too high for the average American family to pay, like Obama is working to get free Social Security and other benefits for illegal aliens? Just joking, I think.

We quit Disneyland in the 1970’s, and doubt we’ll ever go back. It isn’t enjoyable to us to stand in lines, and be run over by thoughtless unsupervised kids.

I remember all the orange groves back in the 1970s when it was just Magic Kingdom and Sea World. I went back to Orlando a few years ago for the first time in over 20 years and could not recognize the place.

A friend of mine told me about a trick to use for places like the Disney resorts. Check to see if they hold stockholder meetings at the resorts. If so, buy one share of stock for each person you want to get in, go the day of the stockholders meeting, but don't bother with the meeting. I don't know if it works for Disney, but it does for some other resorts.

Great for my stock! Disney is great..always been a big fan. Make use if the fast pass using your smart phone along with the free app and we had zero problems and hardly any lines during peak season this past summer.

Other than the fact that was hotter than hades, all was well.

I think this might be what you’re referring to.

Excerpt from WIKI:

On February 2, 1967, Roy O. Disney held a press conference at the Park Theatres in Winter Park, Florida. The role of EPCOT was emphasized in the film that was played, the last one recorded by Walt Disney before his death. After the film, it was explained that for Disney World, including EPCOT, to succeed, a special district would have to be formed: the Reedy Creek Improvement District with two cities inside it, Bay Lake and Reedy Creek, now Lake Buena Vista. In addition to the standard powers of an incorporated city, which include the issuance of tax-free bonds, the district would have immunity from any current or future county or state land-use laws. The only areas where the district had to submit to the county and state would be property taxes and elevator inspections.

The legislation forming the district and the two cities was signed into law by Florida Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr. on May 12, 1967. The Supreme Court of Florida then ruled in 1968 that the district was allowed to issue tax-exempt bonds for public projects within the district, despite the sole beneficiary being Walt Disney Productions.
