I agree. The part when they worry that someone might see something happen at the end of the chase was laughable. They were essentially siding with the villains in the car chase narrative. And then to top it off they conclude that it’s bettter to just let people speed off. So the next time I run a red light and the cop tries to pull me over I’ll just gun it and get out of a pricey traffic ticket. Don’t they realize that tickets are revenue generators.
“During the LA chase we hear the studio newscasters condemn the “maniac” driver, while doing their best to build tension and keep audiences glued to the screen”
Why did they put quotes around maniac? And why do they try to set up the “tension building” as somehow incongruous with calling the the driver a maniac?
And what about the newsworthiness of showing a chase? Their logic is that if showing it doesn’t make the viewer “safer” then it shouldn’t be shown. Is this the standard? How many things on the news don’t make you safer and yet still make the news? It’s just infuriating to read garbage like this. The tone is one of treating the average person like a child who shouldn’t be allowed to see something “graphic” and needs to be made safer by watching the news.
