Been a while for me but isn't that rather formal? I'm sure the schöneste mädchen was giggling.
Indeed.
“Andrei Rublev” was, without a doubt, the harshest movie I have EVER seen.
He got the idea from Russian movies.
Ah...the old “Baby Carriage rolling down the Outdoor Stairs” scenario! LOL
>> the same Japanese doesn’t sound guttural at all when the speaker is female <<
Actually, it’s not “the same Japanese.”
When it comes to what’s actually spoken, as opposed to the “standard” Japanese that you’d study in a class or read in a phrase book, Japanese men and women really have what amount to different dialects.
The men’s dialect is definitely abrupt and even somewhat rough-sounding, whereas the women’s dialect is super-polite.
Moreover, ever since GI’s began consorting with Japanese girls right after World War II, the Japanese have had a standing joke about American men who use girlish, sissified lingo — because the only bits of the Japanese language that many GI’s knew were what they had learned from their Japanese girl friends!
>> maybe Romanch (sp?), the 4th Swiss language, was the closest to Latin since it was an older. Preserved language from the mountains above Italy <<
Interesting idea. I like it!
Still, if Mario Pei says Sardinian is most like Latin, I’m in no position to dispute his erudition on the matter.
