American Sniper on the way to becoming highest domestic grossing war film of all time
American Thinker ^ | 01/26/2015 | Rick Moran

American Sniper continued to smash box office records in its second week of showings, blowing through the $200-million domestic gross figure, and is set to pass Saving Private Ryan next week as the biggest domestic grossing war film of all time.

The Clint Eastwood-helmed feature is red-hot in the heartland, as well as the South, according to Deadline Hollywood:

For Sniper, should it hold its estimate into tomorrow, this weekend would mark a mere 28-percent slip – the best second-week hold for a wide release ever for a film that debuted with more than $85M. Previous to this, the best big debuts to hold an audience were 2004’s Shrek 2 (down 33 percent in its second frame) and 2002’s Spider-Man (down 38 percent). American Sniper is marching toward $300M, a mark only six Warner Bros. films have passed.

“Many exhibitors are hearing from their theater managers that the infrequent moviegoers who go only two to three times a year, are coming out to see this movie,” said Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman. “This a movie about patriotism, recognizing heroes, those who served; it’s about family. There are those who feel it’s anti-war movie. However, there are only 10 films in CinemaScore’s history that have done an A+ in every single category, and that’s telling, because no matter how one views American Sniper, everybody ends up in the same place.”

After posting a solid Friday of $18.3M, American Sniper shot up 58 percent Saturday, with another $28.8M.  The prediction is that it will fall off 40 percent Sunday, adding another $17.3M.

Across the South and the heartland, American Sniper was playing strong: On Saturday, Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla., both were up 63%, and Charlotte, N.C. was up 64%. But it wasn’t just in the South. Cleveland was up 73% and  even D.C. was up 102 percent.

I wonder how much of the movie’s earnings Michael Moore is personally responsible for generating...

I love it.

And I love even more the fact that it causes weak-minded (if they have minds at all) libs go bonkers thinking up insults regarding those who go to and enjoy the movie.

And Clint, you da man!!

Is there an Oscar category for that?

My wife and I went Sat. because of Moore and Maher. Theatre was packed out and I had to sit in the front row. People cheered and cried when it was over. How dare we show a patriotic film in the midst of political correctness!

I love it that Hollywood and the lefties are all in a wad about this film. They’ve been promulgating the worst vile AND not making money. Here’s a film about courage, a hero against all odds, love and marriage and a family, and sacrifice. And it’s a block-buster. AND Clint Eastwood made a very public joke about Obama at the Republican convention.

Hollywood is going to have to decide - do they stand for cramming leftie ideology down the public’s throats OR do they want to make money? Hahah, the Hard Edge of Reality strikes again.

Loving it.

Thank you, Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin and the other duffus for making American Sniper even more popular than it already was. If it wasn’t for your big, nasty, liberal mouths, some of the country would be unaware of the importance of this movie. You have helped make it the success it is - aren’t you proud? Also, keep up the good work because the more you flap your stupid, liberal gums the more money the movie makes.

Michael Moore

I’m not sure he’s correct about that.

For instance, I have not been able to go see the movie because I have been too busy at home clinging to my guns and religion.

My wife and I are going to see American Sniper this week. We did see Fury just before this film was released.

We are hearing major squawking about the movie from liberals because they fear that the movie could cause a shift in movie production. Major studios may come to the conclusion that films that appeal to patriotic Americans are more profitable than the typical trash they produce pushing global warming, marijuana, gay rights and other liberal propaganda. This movie is making more liberal heads explode than cowboy yodeling did at the end of the Movie, “Mars Attacks”.

Saw this picture last night with Mrs. Absalom. In addition to making liberal heads explode, it was just a good movie. Great 3-act script, and solid performances from a great cast, along with Clint’s unmatched ability to move a story along. Its worth seeing more than once, just because it’s such a good movie.

Funny how they are in a tizzy about snipers - Obama took 1000 snipers with him to India. Such a joke.

Clint Eastwood has come out wit a statement saying essentially ‘The greatest way to make an anti-war sentiment in a movie is to show the ravages of war and how difficult it Is for returning vets’

Apparently He meant this film as an anti-war statement?

They put some PC in there. Whenever I heard returned soldiers speak about their enemies in a much less flattering manner.

Then again, I never heard my Dad or uncles speak of the enemies they faced in nice terms either. So it is a small thing, and to re record the dialog for TV broadcast one day would take extra millions.

RE: Apparently He meant this film as an anti-war statement?

Hard to predict the results huh?

Not when his film also shows the savagery of the enemies we’re dealing with and what our brave soldiers ( VOLUNTEERS ) have to go through to stop them as this film does.
