An Egyptian citizen, identified as "Nagy" by Arabic news site Ahram.org, was illegally digging in his backyard when he found a tunnel leading to the Pyramid of Khufu. The pyramid, nicknamed the Great Pyramid, is the oldest and largest of the three Giza Pyramids. Nagy, a resident of the El Haraneya village, near the Giza Plateau, dug 33 feet beneath his house before he found the corridor, made from stone blocks. Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities sent archaeologists to the scene, and a committee confirmed the passage to be the pyramid's legendary causeway.

Article short on the why he was digging a 33 foot hole in his backyard. If he'd have dug in the US, his HOA would have stopped him at the 2 foot mark.

33 feet? I guess when you’re burying bodies you want to bury them deep.

One has to dig deep to locate the stargate.

Poor Nagy just opened himself up to having his property confiscated by the Antiquities Bureau. If I were him, I would have filled the hole back up once I found the passage.

He could be looking for water. Land tenure rights keep getting smaller. Worldwide.

Too much unelected bureaucracy everywhere.

So was it a tunnel, or a buried causeway? Both?

Yet another example of a good deed going punished.

Nagy: “No stuff, Sherlock!”

Sherlock: “Dig deeper, Nagy!”

Bet the archaeologists are totally p***** about not figuring this out.

And I'm sure they will confiscate his property. Kinda like America.

“it in the fifth century B.C.E. Herodotus wrote that the passage was enclosed and covered in reliefs,”

Goonies adventure afoot! We live humdrum lives and this guy locates a secret passage to inside the Great Pyramid! That will be hard to beat. I would have at least looked for treasure before reporting it...: )

We should wait to see where this passage actually goes, it may be Old Kingdom in date, or it may not. It may not lead anywhere (that’s my guess) or it may be a New Kingdom date construction on the plateau. There was a revival of interest in the Giza monuments during the New Kingdom.

Or a Knights Templar on Oak Island. He forgot to install the planks every 10 feet

The tunnel probably got its start in Mexico, but they took a wrong turn somewhere.
