The story seems like its been told forever at Penn State University.
Long-tenured coach builds up a sports program that becomes so successful its players bask in national prominence year after year. The coach gains so much respect he receives status as an honorary alumnus, gets a flavor named for him at Penn States famed Berkey Creamery and earns a spot on the Inspiration mural just off the State College campus.
Naturally, were talking about the schools vaunted football program, right?
Not this time.
Russ Rose and his womens volleyball team at Penn State recently took the floor inside Oklahoma Citys Chesapeake Energy Arena and came away with an exclusive place in that sports history.
By defeating Brigham Young University, the Nittany Lions secured on Dec. 20 not just another Division I national championship, but their seventh more than any other program in that sports history.
Success in womens volleyball even a dynasty like the Nittany Lions does not engender the national fervor triggered by a college football championship berth or a trip to basketballs Final Four. Despite having won more than 86 percent of his matches over a 36-year coaching career, Mr. Rose isnt exactly a household name outside Penn State and the volleyball world.
Nevertheless, he and his team are getting harder to miss.

I love watching women’s volleyball. heh
At the State Penn, the Mann is still torturing data, language and the Legal System.
What’s Mann have to do with volleyball? PSU Meteo also produced Joe Bastardi - Mann’s largest critic, along with Steyn.
“State Penn”? What are you in 4th grade?
Trinity College Squash team... longest winning streak in any sports...
Freeh has played fast and loose with his overpriced sham investigations for long enough. His chickens are coming home to roost.
BTW - Lori Falce does a good job for the CDT in covering this mess. Here's a link to a story she did that sums up all the court cases and where they stand. Needless to say, there are many.
“Trinity College Squash team... longest winning streak in any sports...”
True, and the team members should be proud of their record, but how many colleges even have varsity squash? I count 33: http://collegesquashassociation.com/teams/mens-teams/mens-varsity/ And they are overwhelmingly in the Northeast. And, not surprisingly, the vast majority of the schools on that list, are all but useless in sports.
How many schools field squash teams? Great accomplishment, but there are 331 Division 1 WVB teams. To do what PSU has done is beyond amazing.
In the process, they’ve also (nearly) single-handedly shifted the focus of an entire sport from the west coast to the mid west.
Er, you got that right.
How many schools harbored a pedophile, for oh so many years, allowing him to ply his trade with untold numbers of victims?
"State Penn" is the apt name for that institution as someone up the thread mentioned earlier.
While you ruin yet another thread with your childishness, I would ask you what proof you have that anyone at PSU “harbored a pedophile.”
Because if you have any, you might want to notify the PA OAG. They don’t seem to have any, and the SS Freeh is taking on water.
Who the frick cares, we're talking about girls volleyball........take your gripe over to a football related thread.......sheesh!
Who the frick cares?
You and your ilk certaintly don't as you continue with your cult-like worship of anything State Penn while completely ignoring the victims (or do you consider the them perpetrators?).
By the way, the thread is about State Penn so it is you who opened the door.
I love women's college volleyball (only because the men's teams are so powerful you can't even see the ball) and my biggest beef is that there is so little being televised on ESPN.
I'm retired and I play age 55+ senior VB 4 mornings a week with one of them in a structured league. I wish VB had been available when I was going to school but back then it was only BBall, Fball and basketball.....
Can I assume you live in Florida? Because if you do, your Gators picked up a young gal from my local high school named Carly Snyder who started as a Freshman this year. They actually recruited her when she was only a sophomore and last year she was voted unanimously as the Michigan women's volleyball player of the year...
I'd much rather watch women's college volleyball than football since the recruited kids are actually academically proficient and go on to real careers following graduation. And watching their unabashed enthusiasm during their matches brings a perspective to college sports that men's football and basketball have long ago discarded........
If you come across more volleyball articles, please post them.........
You talking to ME bro? I didn't open the door, I merely responded to your uncalled for comments that were totally unrelated to this VOLLEYBALL thread........
Look asshole, I'm from Michigan and I don't worship anything out of Pennsylvania, let alone Penn State.
This thread is about women's volleyball so leave it at that and get your argumentative ass out of here..........3...2...1....
Go ahead, have another sip of Kool aid.
Congratulations, you've successfully hijacked and killed another thread..........
State Penn?? You mean Rockview??
It's only Sunday and you've already clinched the "Obnoxious Asshole of the Week" trophy !
