DISH FAQS Posted: Dec 19, 2014 1:50 PM CST

1. What is happening?

By law, WBOC and FOX21 must negotiate carriage agreements with satellite companies like DISH. Usually, these deals are reached without any disruption to your service. In fact, our company has negotiated dozens of agreements. Unfortunately, so far, DISH has refused to reach a fair, market-based deal to carry WBOC and FOX21. Our existing agreement with DISH expires at midnight on Dec. 31, 2014. If no deal is reached before that date, you will lose live access to the shows, sports and local news on WBOC and FOX21, which you rely on and are paying for. We are continuing to negotiate with DISH, but DISH has refused to agree to reasonable terms for the valuable programming we provide.

I just found that FOX News is no longer available on DISH TV. The TV screen now shows nothing but a DISH TV logo now.

How much more happy will Obama be now that FOX is gone from DISH and two cops are murdered due to his war on the police. Sarc...

There is no war on terror for the Obama White House, but there is one on Fox News.

In a recent interview with The New Republic, President Obama was back to his grousing about the one television news outlet in America that won’t fall in line and treat him as emperor. Discussing breaking Washington’s partisan gridlock, the president told TNR,”If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News...for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you’ll see more of them doing it.”

Alas, the president loves to whine about the media meanies at Fox News. To him, these are not people trying to do their jobs. No, they are out to get him. What other motive could a journalist have in holding a president accountable? Why oh why do Ed Henry and Chris Wallace insist on asking hard questions? Make them stop!

DISH Network : 21st Century Fox Blacks Out Fox News and Business for DISH
12/21/2014 | 12:06am US/Eastern

DISH offers contract extension to continue negotiations, Fox rejects
Fox demands unreasonable rates and carriage of other channels

Tonight, 21st Century Fox, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOXA, FOX) blocked DISH customer access to Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, as the media conglomerate introduced other channels into negotiations despite those channels not being included in the contract up for renewal.

DISH Network L.L.C. is a wholly owned subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH).

“It’s like we’re about to close on a house and the realtor is trying to make us buy a new car as well,” said Warren Schlichting, DISH senior vice president of programming. “Fox blacked out two of its news channels, using them as leverage to triple rates on sports and entertainment channels that are not in this contract.”

This service disruption comes despite DISH’s offer of a short-term contract extension that would preserve the channels as the two parties continue to negotiate.

“DISH has had a productive relationship with Fox for many years,” added Schlichting. “We regret the service disruption to our customers, and remain committed to reaching an agreement that promptly returns this content to DISH’s programming lineup.”

I have Dish and it blows chumks. Wish I had never switched from Directv. Dish has outages all the time with various channels. They really stink.

Threats of losing service from both sides happens during contract negotiations even with cable.

Cable blames networks/channels for wanting more $$$.

Networks/channels blame cable for not paying them enough $$$.

Sometimes the channel on cable goes black for a few hours. Then, miraculously, they reach agreement, the network is back on, and all is right in world.

What you say is absolutely true.

That being said...Dish is getting pretty greedy according to my monthly bill.

When they start jacking around with FoxSportsSW and I can’t watch the Mavs...I’ll pull the plug and go to an antenna. (I live in a rural area and can’t get tv any other way.)

I may do that anyway...I only really like Cavuto on Fox anyway.

Fox apparently believes they have the market share to give them leverage in these negotiations. Given the absolutely dismal ratings of every other "cable news" station, I'd have to say they are right. Maybe Fox is being unreasonable. I don't know as I'm not privy to the negotiations, but I'd say given ratings stats, Fox should be getting 4 times if not more than CNN gets. Hell, given their abysmal ratings, CNN and MSNBC should be paying dish to carry them.

There are other streaming sources as well.

Don’t expect cable or satellite quality or reliability.
