A procedural maneuver by two tea party senators gives 23 Obama nominees, some highly controversial, an unexpected chance for confirmation in the last hours of the 113th Congress.
Thanks to an unexpected legislative maneuver orchestrated by Sens. Ted Cruz (R) of Texas and Mike Lee (R) of Utah, Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D) of Nevada got two extra days he needed to try to move a slate of 23 presidential nominees, some strongly opposed by Republicans, before the 113th Congress ends this week and Democrats lose their majority.
Republicans had blocked these nominees for months and had expected to run out the clock. But the surprise weekend session, during which the Senate passed the budget deal on Saturday, gave Senator Reid an opening, and he seized it.
“The surgeon general nominee – previously blocked – will be confirmed due to missteps,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) of South Carolina on Saturday, according to CQ Roll Call. “I haven’t seen Harry Reid smile like this in years. I don’t like it one bit.”
Since Democrats changed the rules on most confirmations last year, it only takes a majority vote to approve nominees (the exception is nominees for the Supreme Court).

Harry Reid was going to do this in this lame duck session come what may. So I hope my fellow FReepers don’t fall for this standard tactic of lying to cause constitutional conservatives harm. In other words, DON’T BE GULLIBLE.
The 4+ million Obama nominees for citizenship needed stopping. And I blame Boehner for letting this happen. The fix was in with dishonest John.

Well, it’s now OVER 20 MILLION. I don’t have a link but heard that Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary issued his memo (Obama did not sign an Executive Order on this; he just told his appointees verbally to execute it) and the memo applied it to anyone who was here in the country PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2014.
And I’m sure that the Obama Regime will accept anything to “prove” that a person was here before 2014.

They’ve only been “blocked” because Reid likes to do everything by unanimous consent, and he doesn’t want to go through all the cloture motions, which take 30 hours each, etc.
Reid was going to move on all these anyway, because he had the power. Simple as that. What we’re seeing is Reid helping out McConnell blame Ted Cruz and the Tea Party for getting progressive nominees confirmed, when they were going to be confirmed anyway.
